Professional labor photographer. Unions for all. Birds. Whales. Cats. Hydration. Maybe a dash of democratic socialism. Not necessarily in that order. Too much optimism for the current moment. Cute content skeeted often, not with the news cycle
Not to bleak post but damn this week has felt like a month.
I hate how he, Ms Rachel, and Raffi turn me into pro-child. I don't like it!!!
El-Sayed: "My commitment to Jewish safety is the same commitment that I have to the safety of my own daughters. Because if there is one question of political philosophy that ought to animate us all, it's what would we do if we treated all our kids like they were all of our kids?"
THE CHILDREN ARE ALWAYS OURS ALL OF THEM

Turning "Money out of politics, money in your pocket, Medicare for all" into "lowering costs and standing up for working families" is a choice. 🙄
The DSCC releases a statement on the El-Sayed victory.
I wrote about the triumph of Doing Your Own Research and the stupid, nasty thing that is replacing some very recent history in real time. defector.com/were-just-go...

In a bunch of ways, there is no real percentage in remembering what things were actually like during the worst years of the COVID-19 pandemic. Beyond all the uncertainty and suffering and death, there...

10/10 status. 11/10 win.
Congratulations to Donavan McKinney on winning his congressional primary, unseating a millionaire AIPAC stooge! Donavan is a former union member fighting to get money out of politics, a green new deal, and union jobs. @donavanmckinney.bsky.social @detroitdsa.bsky.social
Farm workers: there's a heat advisory across much of CA. Please be careful. Your life comes first. If your worksite is not offering WATER, SHADE, and REST - call the farm worker heat safety hotline at 1-877-881-8281. Reporting heat safety violations saves workers' lives.
If you're seeing this, you deserve this cute duckling. You've earned it. Unless you're a robot feeding a large language model, then you deserve this osprey. 🪶 🐣
@abdulelsayed.bsky.social triumphing over something like $60 million, $32-ish million of it AIPAC money, is not a "narrow" victory, it's a people's earthquake. This kind of spending is oligarchy in action, to smother democracy through its formal channels, and is getting normalized. Still he won.
That's a wrap for the primary. Time for Mike Rogers to get some Eli Lily checks and lose again.
Abdul El-Sayed won Michigan's Democratic nomination for U.S. Senate, defeating U.S. Rep. Haley Stevens in a victory for the party's progressive wing in a battleground state. bit.ly/4wHDgbm
Just consuming the local media last night Jocelyn gave off fun teachers Governor vibes and every Republican gave off crypt keeper vibes.
feels worth noting that the blowout Dem gov primary in Michigan got about 60% more voter participation - 1.49 million votes - than the more competitive GOP gov primary - 930k votes. obviously contested D vs uncontested R Senate primaries affect this, but still. www.nytimes.com/interactive/...
I hope the most important lesson dems learn from the MI-07 Congressional race is that the time of not doing the work is over. We can no longer drop in candidates with nat'l security experience, who haven't lived in the district and rely on media campaigns. People need to show up and knock doors.
I saw a FB post from a thoroughly apolitical college acquaintance in this district who stuck a Lawrence sign in her yard because she met and talked with him and he showed genuine interest in her career as a pre-K educator and established local ties. Good candidates knocking doors goes a long way!
Bad night for the money in politics crowd.
Here it is, after over a year, I finally edited the a red quarter Moon rising over Lake Superior, shot from Michigan, last July 18th at 1am. This was a rough one! 🗺️
Since we're talking about Michigan tonight, here's my 2nd favorite shot when I rolled on through last year.
I should be sleeping but I had to get this out of my head first
