I don't even know what to say. This is real, this is true, so, like, thank you all, from the bottom of my heart. This took over 25 years to happen so if there's any lesson here it's either "keep at it, who knows" or "many people are divorced"

I am 49 hours in and am confident this will be in my top 3 games of the year.

This reminds me of a youtuber I saw once complaining that Garfield Kart would shut down his computer with a controller plugged in and it turns out the problem was that the most upvoted steam config for Garfield Kart at the time was a community config that bound every button to "Shutdown Computer"
Weird accomplishments!! There's a promo video for Hersheypark with a sick close-up of me playing a sax solo Got hit by a car as a child on my bike, landed right on my noggin, didn't die bc helmet 🤙 Lost over 100 pounds twice, over a decade apart, which says lots about my discipline (good and bad)
Weird accomplishments Broke a middle school long jump record which was previously held by my 7th grade social studies teacher Performed minor roles in professional productions of The Comedie of Errors and A Midſommer nights dreame using First Folio texts Sang on the soundtracks of three games
I think everyone involved in Ai should be eaten alive by wolverines. And that's the moderate position
companies are sourcing millions of printed books for AI labs that scan them for training data, then destroy them. printed books are more valuable because they're free of AI slop, and AI labs know destroying them is an "optics problem." www.404media.co/ai-companies...

A real one on Reddit put together a master list of all the PS3 games that are truly not available on any modern consoles once the store closes. They list prices, if they're on PC/Xbox, and they even list DLC for physical games that'll be permanently gone too. VERY good list to check!

I'm running low on my stash of Weird Controllers, but the Keyzen gets a shout-out. Azeron makes quality stuff. Only picked it up when I found a fella selling it + a Cyborg for the price of 1. The original, blank keys are a bit short/small, so I replaced (most of) them with taller caps.
More weird...mice? I switched to trackballs in 2025 and have come to love them. They've come a long way from the crummy, old-school thumb balls from the early 2000s. This is a "gaming" one, which imo only serves to inflate its price. Smoothest one I own, though. Very handy for audio editing, too!

Star Fox 2026: a refreshing throwback
Star Fox is back! Again. And this time, people, for the most part, actually seem to like it. This is more than can be said for the past attempt to bring it back -- which, for the record, I still feel was vastly underrated and completely misunderstood. The most common criticism that has been going...

And also: I remember thinking, early on in SC, that maybe the score wasn't going to feel as special as FC's did. I am sorry, Falcom Sound Team. I did not respect your game. (fwiw this came after some really nicely developed motifs earlier...but I must prog rock, right now) youtu.be/ylouY3GIDSw?...

ICYMI: Chrono, Shadow Hearts, Black Butler, a whole Celtic album, even.

Calvin and Hobbes strip that says it quite well;
even if LLM actually made gamedev more efficient, which I see no reason to believe it has or will, that won't reduce crunch, because the business people will just push harder until you're crunching again. When a tool increases worker productivity, that doesn't translate into better work hours.
I have played a wiiiild amount of Trails SC over the past couple of days.

Another "weird controller" installment: the Logitech G13, long since discontinued. Still works perfectly well with modern games. Everything is mappable, so you could, in theory, map WASD on the keys and use the stick for...whatever else. The stick angle is its Achilles heel imo (played Kena on this)
The chapters on the game of Eschaton and the psyche of how one gets to AA in Infinite Jest being back-to-back is just so powerful and affective. So glad I decided to do a reread of this, this year in particular.
