Biggest unforgivable flaw with Christopher Nolan's THE ODYSSEY is how they get out of the Trojan Horse. A real filmmaker would have made Matt Damon and Jon Bernthal have to escape the horse Ace Ventura style.
Just got choked up at an episode in the new season of KING OF THE HILL where Hank becomes a fan of a silly sci-fi series to make peace with Bobby. My dad and I often connect over movies but he would NEVER watch something like AVATAR or an anime on his own accord to see what his dork son in is into.

Haven’t seen new Spider-Man but confident best superhero movie of last 5 years is still SHIN KAMEN RIDER, an over-the-top bit of fun where beneath the silly genre surface is a sad tale of depressed people caught in (motor)cycles they can’t escape & how the only way out is other people. It’s so EVA.

Every clip I've seen of THE PURGE BUT SEX has been absolutely juiceless and then I'll see some critic I respect go "I kinda liked it". This movie about a hellscape where the government won't let you fuck fascinates me. Not enough to buy a ticket but fascinating nonetheless.

CARLITO'S WAY. One of my favorite movies. David Koepp's script is fire. Al Pacino is magnetic, the supporting cast (Viggo!?!) all rule and Brian De Palma was rarely better & more Pure Kino than he was here! The chase setpiece is one of the greatest conceived setpieces ever made! Top 5 De Palma!

I can already tell you my big takeaway from BLADE RUNNER 2099 is it should've been a movie.
Every day Alan Bergman at Disney points at a picture of Spider-Man and says:
AVATAR AANG: THE LAST AIRBENDER. On a technical level this is top notch. Every shot a wonder. Big & flashy in a way that would kill on the big screen. There's a set piece with a falling mountain that had me slack jawed. Wish we had 2D animation like this in theaters. Storywise it.... meh.
Watching movie and there's a sudden Taika Waititi appearance. Hate when that happens.
