a few edmund mcmillen games do this actually, in mewgenics, things like base stats, inbredness, sexuality and libido exist from the moment you start the game but you have to slowly earn the right to actually see them

it's good for a game to be complex, but you really shouldn't throw a new player into that complexity out of the bat I've already heard about 3 friends who have someone try to get them into a game just to coach them into speedrunning tactics straight away and it just ends up pushing them away X-P
