(she/her) Play and playfulness. Cycles to get places. Worcester, UK

This is a brilliant article- read and share 😊 I’ve had the privilege of working with ATE superweeks for over 20 years and have seen the power of allowing children independence; giving them space to be themselves away from pressures of day to day life; and play! www.theguardian.com/society/2025...

‘A good thing for children’: summer camps at risk in UK as costs rise

Campaigners urge government to recognise ‘authentic childhood experience’ provided by summer camps, in upcoming youth strategy

Worcester! Kidical mass this Sunday 🥳 family friendly bike ride to make noise for space for the next generation. All welcome. Music, bubbles, good vibes. Starting at Cafe Viaduct and ending up in Gheluvelt Park, hopefully for a coffee or ice cream at newly opened Kyndfolk

Reflections on the Global Bike Bus summit 2025: 1) It was energising being in the same space as so many inspiring, kind and positive change makers. 2) Children’s voices need to be front and centre when it comes to active travel and urban design. How we allow them to move matters.

I just think it’s important we don’t leave young people out of the conversation about local government reorganisation and how the future of local democracy looks when it’s *their* future too

Well said, councillor Katie Collier @positivelyplayful.bsky.social 👏👏👏 It is really important that the best interests of children and young people in Worcester do not get lost or ignored in plans for the new devolved council, whatever form it ends up taking. www.worcesternews.co.uk/news/2494184...

On Saturday Niki and I delivered a presentation on social pedagogy and community engagement at the Department of Children and Families conference at Worcester University. We discussed the rights of children, play and children’s place in public spaces…1/3

Two women- Kate and Niki- stand at the front of a full lecture theatre presenting. There is a slide on the screen with images of children playing on the street.

“Children don’t play out anymore” says ex-PM who, during covid, stopped children from playing outside whilst encouraging adults to go to pubs. Somewhere in this latest weird rant there’s a nugget of truth about children’s health - but let’s talk about the issue seriously.

I’m hoping it’s easy to make a thread here because it’s time for my first rant…I’m so tired of how difficult it is to choose to use a bike as a mode of transport here in Worcester. This week has featured so many close passes, plus having abuse shouted at me for no reason other than existing…

Very important line here from Transport Secretary Louise Haigh on road safety: "We treat road safety in a way as if it is somehow a natural accident. If the number of people being killed or seriously injured on our roads, were being killed in any other way, we'd be treating it as a pandemic."
