The people here leave me alone in the night. My body relaxes enough to go into the catheter, pass tension and pain they pricked all day and, finally, ease, slump, nap, laugh. alien & mechanic & uncanny

the cicadas' song, in May—
for a day, it sounds like machines
in town, this song of sex and freedom:
carapaces split and clinging to
the pines in the park—to sleep
so long, then climb out
of the ground ready to leap
into the world with a scream.
I am bathed in the pitch and
vibration, surrounded as a
child should be by care.
It is May, and my pelvis
cramps with ovulation.
This is too much truth
for some people, the way
the cicada is too much,
from nymph to screaming,
flying thing. Siren of the pines.
