Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley

@pressley.house.gov

Proudly serving the Massachusetts 7th.

Our Head Start programs are impactful & life-changing for our babies. But Trump wants to eliminate this essential program, lower its quality standards, & deny our most vulnerable children a first-rate early education. Trump should keep his grubby little hands off Head Start.

An article by the Associated Press titled: Trump overhaul could gut Head Start preschool standards, leaving states to set the rules.

From Worcester to the Merrimack Valley, Massachusetts knows what’s possible with fare-free transit. My new report with @pressley.house.gov shows that going fare free saves money, grows ridership & simplifies transit. We must pass the Freedom to Move Act so communities can go fare free.

Earlier this week, I conducted oversight of the Dilley ICE detention center. What every duly elected Member of Congress has a right to do, but the Trump Administration continues to obstruct. They’re trying to silence the harrowing testimonies coming from behind the walls of these detention camps.

I hear from constituents every day that housing is their first, second, & third priority. That’s why I’m proud to deliver $500K in federal funding to support Mattapan seniors' housing and their right to age with dignity. Everybody deserves a place to rest, dream, & call home.

I've been fighting to prevent the stealing of SNAP benefits for years & I'm thrilled to see Massachusetts lead the way. These first-of-its-kind EBT cards will make it safer & easier for folks to access their essential benefits to feed their families. TY Governor Healey for your leadership.

A MassLive article titled: Mass. becomes first state to launch chip-enabled EBT cards to combat benefit theft.

If you are outraged by the number of Black & low-income people that are incarcerated, the same for-profit system is driving the unlawful detainment & deportation of our immigrant neighbors. These are two sides of a very evil for-profit coin.

Families in the #MA7 are grappling with a housing & affordability crisis. That's why I'm proud to deliver $500K in federal funds to make the Brooke House Village Center in Mattapan a reality. This is an investment in healthy aging that will help our elders thrive with dignity.

61 years ago, Medicare & Medicaid became law & have helped provide care for elders, disabled & low-income families. Yet Trump & Republicans gutted these vital programs to pay for tax breaks for billionaires. I'll never stop fighting to save healthcare & affirm it as a human right.

What is happening inside the Dilley ICE detention center is state-inflicted trauma. Babies & toddlers caged for weeks. Children developing suicidal ideation. Families being fed expired food & denied medical care. We must close Dilley immediately & free our children.

To be young, gifted, and Black is where it’s at. Congratulations to Harvard University's Black Graduated Class of 2026. Be righteous stewards of your gifts in today’s civil rights movement. We’ll make change with your righteous indignation and collective determination.

We deserve an America where everyone has control of their body & has access to the care they need, when & where they need it. Our America 250 Reproductive Justice Resolution affirms just that. Grateful to our movement partners fighting for a more just, more free America.

I rose on the House floor to honor the life of Pastor Byron Christopher Sumner, a beloved son of Roxbury who devoted his career to serving our community. As we grieve his loss, may we move forward in service. May he rest peacefully.

All Americans should be part of our democracy—but some states deny people with a criminal record their right to vote. While Trump—who also has a criminal record—attacks voting rights, our Inclusive Democracy Act would expand access to the ballot box for disenfranchised voters.

Protecting the safety, dignity, & humanity of our Haitian neighbors is the right thing to do. Our country is strengthened by their contributions to our communities, the economy, our healthcare workforce, & more. The Senate must pass the extension of Haiti TPS without delay.

Fascist attacks on museums are not just about history, they're an assault on truth itself. That’s why Trump is working overtime to turn our museums into instruments of MAGA propaganda. He’s pressuring the Smithsonian to remove, whitewash, & rewrite our stories. But we won’t allow it.

I’m glad CFPB Director Vought is on his way out. But he needs to know exactly the harm he has caused to families. He gutted consumer protections, dropped settlements against predatory companies, eliminated medical debt relief, & made life worse for everyday people.

Rep. Pressley: You avow that you are a Christian nationalist, so I’m sure you spent some time in Sunday school.

CFPB Director Vought: ........

Rep. Pressley: Did you happen upon a scripture that said, “Thou shall make their neighbor poorer, hungrier, sicker, and less safe?”

DEI policies have supported women in every aspect of their lives. That’s why Republicans are hellbent on emboldening greater discrimination & dismantling civil rights protections. Congress must codify gender equality & pass my bill to make the ERA the law of the land.
