It is a terrible shame, and potentially disastrous, that the anti-science fad has gained such power in a once proudly scientific nation I yearn for the return of sanity there, while dreading that it might spread to other western countries including mine

There is no scientific basis for this recommendation. Separate measles, mumps and rubella vaccines are generally not available in the U.S. Vaccines do not cause autism.
