I don't ask much from retro RPGs. All I want is a really jacked woman, a central combat gimmick that's less effective than just doing regular attacks for action economy reasons (but I use it anyway 'cause it looks sick as hell), and at some point getting to fast travel by being shot out of a cannon.

Honestly, it's hard to even get annoyed at some of the folks who come blundering into creative discussions like "this is literally just [thing that does not even slightly resemble what's being proposed]" because their reaction is so clearly the product of an embarrassing lack of literacy. (1/2)

There's definitely a lot of cool stuff going in the OSR scene, but there are also a lot of books where you get a couple of pages into character creation and immediately get that spark of recognition that says "yes, I too have read about but never actually played Mentzer Basic".
