I love making weird sicko games with strange, bespoke mechanics. But let’s be fucking real, most ttrpg players and purchasers don’t. That makes a material impact on my ability to navigate the real capitalist hellscape we’re in. I hate it, but my ‘weird’ games don’t do well. ‘Safe’ stuff does.

industry awards are a net good for the material difference they make in artists’ lives—especially in a culture that doesn’t value creative labor nearly enough—but the persistent voting and logistical issues the ennies face (or invite) each year necessitate change beyond adding or editing categories

I’ve played Skirmish probably a dozen times since discovering it years ago. The units and warbands are thematic and fun, the rules are snappy, and the overall presentation, while a little shaky, shows an innovative passion that is hard to deny. Highly recommend for a compact wargaming experience.
