The NYT published a missing chapter of the DNC “autopsy,” titled “What Happened in 2024” which offers criticisms of party consultants who are “self-enriching” and out of touch with the concerns of ordinary voters.

This is the hugely important part and something that it's really hard to believe is happening but is. Literally, a lot of senior staff at the DNC do not want to see any reforms because they are comfortable taking orders from DCCC etc and literally did not give Chair Martin Rivera's documents.

They're both a core part of Dem leadership and have 90s era beliefs about what voters want. Jeffries and Schumer are ideologically aligned and when Jeffries was born is irrelevant, but he was getting a master's in Public Policy in 1994. His political coming of age was in the Clinton era.

Also, dog whistles? Fuck off with that nonsense. Jeffries is House Democratic Leader. He is a core part of leadership and as responsible for the party's direction as Pelosi was when she was in the role, and the idea that any criticism of him is dogwhistling is bullshit.

In any society, there will be a large number of people who are dispositionally conservative, which is fine and even good. There will also be a small, but significant number who are outright authoritarians. A good electoral system will silo the latter and allow the former to govern without them.

one more thing about the centrist consultants: they too are cynical and bitter, as many of them are highly disappointed by most of the D electeds. So they self-justify—they just throw over principles and worry about making money for their families. It’s a problem. But it‘s understandable.

For the record, I and many others did not do this— I pointed out that the problems were the centrist and their aligned donors, and the weak party brand that Martin can’t change quickly. (this is for the people going off on anyone who says that some improvement is needed)
