In Super Mario Sunshine, the insides of buildings are floating above the regular levels. The transition is usually seamless, never letting the player find out. However, under specific circumstances, the illusion can be shattered by Mario looking up at the room's true position.

In Super Mario Sunshine, if Mario exits the Crate Guy minigame building in Delfino Plaza just as the time is about to run out, Crate Guy will talk to him from inside the building. During this, Mario will look directly upward, even though Crate Guy should be just a few steps in front of him, in the building.
This is because the game uses a trick whereby the inside of the building is actually floating in mid-air above Delfino Plaza so as to not store it as a separate room. The transition usually works seamlessly, but in this case Mario looks at Crate Guy's true location, shattering the illusion.

Mario & Luigi: Brothership contains an unused test NPC that would have said a more elaborate version of the usual "the quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog" test sentence, featuring references to Nintendo consoles.

The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog. THE QUICK BROWN FOX JUMPS OVER THE LAZY DOG A TOTAL OF 5,728,100,643.99 TIMES. Mr Jock, TV quiz PhD: bags 20% fewer lynx at a cafe; voilã, they're "worth" $10. That's 10 + 9 - 8 = 11 Nintendo Switch consoles & Nintendo 3DS! He claimed though I don't believe him to have done so in an eyes-shut state...Nintendo(#Nintendo_Europe@nintendo.de)
The files specify the dialogue would have been said by a test NPC, though the exact design of that NPC is unknown. A random generic NPC was used as a placeholder.

Sweet Sweet Galaxy in Super Mario Galaxy contains a Toad Brigade Starshroom with a red Toad on it. However, the only red Toad in the brigade is Captain Toad. As such, this is either a rare glimpse of Captain Toad without his uniform, or an unofficial extra member of the brigade.

Who is this?
Option 1: Captain Toad out of uniform
Option 2: Unaccounted Captain Toad lookalike

It is possible that the design of the Jizo statues in Super Mario Odyssey is based on a common misinterpretation of Statue Mario's sprite from Super Mario Bros. 3, whereby his mustache appears to some viewers to be a smile instead.

In New Super Mario Bros., Mario cannot use a Mega Mushroom in Toad Houses. Assuming the Mega Mario form in these locations reveals that the special Question Blocks cannot be destroyed by it, and instead create a very peculiar infinite particle effect.

In Paper Mario: The Origami King, Koopa Troopas are explicitly religious, which is very rare for the Mario franchise. This might be a reference to an idea first proposed by Super Mario Bros. 3 32 years prior, whereby a Koopa Troopa was shown praying in the game's ending.

In Paper Mario: The Origami King, Koopa Troopas are shown to be explicitly religious, using words like "worship" to describe their activity and "god" to describe the object of that worship. This is distinct from usual Mario spirituality that revolves around "wishes".
It it possible that this is harkening back to a single dedicated sprite of a Koopa Troopa praying to Statue Mario in the ending of Super Mario Bros. 3, 32 years prior. As modern Paper Mario games often reference that game, this could be a deliberate reference.

In Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games, Donkey Kong is not playable. However, an unfinished version of him exists in the files, which uses Waluigi as his icon. It is possible that this provisional Donkey Kong could have been a modified Waluigi.

In Mario & Luigi: Brothership, Mario and Luigi communicate mostly by saying each other's names. By the time the first dialogue box appears 5 minutes in, Mario has already said "Luigi" 21 times, and Luigi has already said "Mario" 14 times.

"???: Oh! Luigi!" This is the game's first dialogue box, which appears about 5 minutes into gameplay.
Mario has already said "Luigi" 21 times by now. Luigi has already said "Mario" 14 times by now.

Experimental post: Field Reporting When I made my text-only emergency posts, a common request was that I should illustrate them myself while away from my computer. Below is my attempt to do so with one of the posts. This will be the form future emergency posts will be presented in.

On the ledge above the Princess's Secret Slide in Super Mario 64, if the camera mode is switched while Mario is sleeping, he will float through the ground in a reality-defying manner. This works only on the original N64 and does not work in any rereleases of the game.

Last night, I was depressed and having negative thoughts, saying "God or the Universe must not like me, I feel like wasted potential" Opened up Fall Guys to destress in Explore mode, and literally someone called "GodLovesYou888" shows up on the 1st level (they were hugging everyone + my character)

Emergency text-only post: The last file in Mario Strikers Charged is "zzzz.zzz". Opening it reveals an explanation that a bug prevents the alphabetically last file on the disc from loading, and instead of fixing it, this dummy file was a clever workaround.
