Mister President, we must eliminate the tariffs on advanced Chinese gooning technology; despite being based on American technology transfer decades ago they have progressed leaps and bounds beyond our sheltered domestic champions

people love to post about how "you're not gonna like it when there's millions of unmarried aimless young men" and like Japan and Korea have been running this field experiment for years and they're mostly just playing video games and jerking off

If you ever find yourself arguing with a person who believes in the “simulation hypothesis”, remind them the only way it could agree with hard physics constraints is the plot of the smash hit 1999 film The Matrix, and they’re just describing that you with extra steps. They get super mad about that!

The latest drama at Bayreuth: the production of Gotterdammerung got booed due to its baffling AI-generated background collage consisting of prior Ring performances, pictures of Helmut Kohl, and the 9/11 attacks. (Note that Wagner fans are a pretty irascible lot and they love booing modern stagings)

Really doesn’t bode well that a bunch of people on here and Twitter are looking at the latest Spanish-Moroccan border flare up and going “Israel must be secretly orchestrating this”

Zero stars for the Odyssey, unredeemable Nolanslop. They literally turned to the camera at the end and were like “I fear our Linear A writing system will never be deciphered due to my actions in this film, which is about how the gods don’t exist and are actually a figment of my guilty conscience”

Obviously now that it’s massive headline news a bunch of people who know nothing about the situation will comment stupid things about it (esp because it’s AI related) but the Leopold blowup is quite shocking to basically every professional investor who was following him for several reasons:

*Trojan historian watching as the Achaeans break down the gates* Wow, my civilization is undergoing a complex transformation from a heavily centralized and stratified administrative society to a more socially-fragmented modality of living in which material culture is dispersed amidst smaller sites.

I had a beer tonight for a change, to get in touch with the common man. The common man should consider locking in so they can drink Rayas instead, this shit sucks

This is a very quarter baked idea but it feels like it would make way more sense to Sovietmaxx with government owned restaurants/food halls instead of grocery stores. You get far more significant economies of scale, less food waste, more time savings for poor people who don’t have time to cook etc.

Politics aside, do people believe city-run grocery stores with deeply discounted prices are a good POLICY idea? What are they intended to accomplish, in your view? What problem do they solve? Would you implement them if not running for election? I'm sincerely curious in people's answers here.

If my envelope math is correct you should be able to serve Kimi K3 locally out of 2x DGX Stations at a very usable rate for $175k , or like a bazillion Sparks cluster at an unusable slow rate if you want to deal with a ton of networking hassle for $50-75k.

Apple Intelligence is just stunningly bad at email prioritization. Somehow my work email is flagging the highest priority mails as the bullshit “morning market color” blasts from fifth tier bucket shops that I literally have never opened once in my entire career.

You receive an inheritance of $1 million from a grandparent. A stranger claims to be a long-lost relative and contests the will, but offers to settle for $950k. Your lawyer tells you their claim is weak and you have a 50% chance of winning in court. Do you take the settlement or defend yourself?

I guess what I find alarming about the million-dollar-coin-flip question is not that people get it wrong (that’s expected). It’s that it has a correct answer, which is the same for almost anyone - e.g., an answer a fiduciary would be expected to give - and people who know better won’t admit that.

Private jets and mega yachts are very environmentally friendly, because if you redistributed Jeff Bezos’ money to middle class American, they would consume it in vastly more carbon intensive ways. $500mm of Priuses would emit 50,000 tons of CO2 per year, while $500mm of yacht emits a mere 7,000:

After intensive discussion I have concluded that it is necessary to build an entire Potemkin internet exactly as it appeared in 2005. You get Wikipedia, forums, news sites, whatever, but no short form video, social media, or AI. When you graduate college you get the password to the real Internet.
