I'm a design researcher and PhD student in QC. Interested in design, politics, disability justice, aging, textile arts, electronics, and being a killjoy 💖
As the Green Party of Canada announces the 2 candidates for leadership, I am reminded how they blocked me here because I commented on how they only used alt text on images in the week leading up to their disability announcement in the previous election 💀 Wishing @morricemike.bsky.social the best!
I should have known Musk would let me down. I didn't see any Moon explosion but I did see one shooting star and at least 3-4 possible shooting stars in my peripheral vision. 🌠
If we care about disability justice, one of the lowest-hanging fruits is masks in healthcare. It remains unacceptable that vulnerable patients must ask, sometimes beg, healthcare workers to mask, while also explaining to them why respirator masks are better
No need for an alarm when construction starts at 7am and shakes your whole house. 🫠
It's not a holiday in Quebec and only Quebec and to top that off it's also the end of the construction holiday and so it is LOUD outside.
It takes a certain lack of curiosity to not bother looking at the alternatives and going with the nazi option for your newsletter. I still refuse to click Substack links and use the Substack labeler on Bluesky to help ignore all Substack posts.
getting tired of people on the left still launching substack newsletters after all the reporting on that company in recent years
When we don't adequately fund public universities, and instead force students to take out loans, what we as a society are really doing is borrowing money from the younger generation—their hard-earned future income—to fund a necessary project that benefits us all: building an educated society.
1. This is bullsh*t & an epically stupid policy completely detached from any empirical evidence: bsky.app/profile/mcop... 2. We could simply avoid this entire issue by <all together now> Funding. The. Damn. Public. Universities. Like. We. Used. To: bsky.app/profile/mcop...
I got to take advantage of my forced vacation day to go to the courthouse and set our wedding date! The closest date was in January 2027 so lots of time but glad to have it set now!
It's not a holiday in Quebec and only Quebec and to top that off it's also the end of the construction holiday and so it is LOUD outside.
What if instead of starting substacks in twenty-fucking-twenty-six people learned to give one iota of a fuck about whether they want to associate themselves with nazis.

I've lost a lot of respect for people I see using genAI. It feels very similar to the loss of respect for the people who talk about inclusion and equity and yet refuse to wear masks.
yes, actually I do think AI-use/adoption is a fundamental declaration of what you value and what you don't and its really silly to believe that such declarations won't be noticed by those around you
Just a head’s up to everyone who hasn’t reassessed their relationship with Shopify yet: its CEO is actively pushing far-right politics in Canada, now with Elon Musk’s explicit support!
lol, annnnnnnd there's the nail in the coffin, if there was still any doubt:
Same for my uni. I swear they are a year or two away from cutting all courses and making students pay anyway just because it's tradition or something...
Great reporting from our student journalists at the Duke Chronicle on increases for the most highly paid Duke employees in the wake of unnecessary massive layoffs: www.dukechronicle.com/article/duke...
Vivaldi isn't a perfect solution either, but they are committed to not having any AI. LibreWolf has been solid for me as well as a backup browser + Waterfox is Firefox without all the junk (incl. AI) and you can still use your Mozilla account to sync your browser between devices.
In Toronto, there's a long time (20-30 years I believe) rave event that happens every Sunday at Cherry Beach in the summer, where ravers wander over to post-rave and continue the party. Last week, an organizer lost it on a woman and her kids over a painted pebble with the 🇵🇸 on it.
Mark Carney just allowed war criminal Benjamin Netanyahu to fly through Canada despite a warrant for his arrest and the country being a signatory to the Rome Statute. We have aided and embedded one of history's greatest monsters
Yes, the world sucks, but also, have have you seen all the amazing, creative, colourful, beautiful, smart, touching, useful, gorgeous things people are working on and putting out into the world?
Hate to be that girl, but I literally created this almost 10 years ago and won a Gemini award for it but it was for the entire Francophonie of Canada, not just QC 🤷 ici.radio-canada.ca/nouvelle/227...

Don't forget: Shopify and Canadian tech broligarchs exist and are evil too.
Since we’ve been talking about Shopify bro this weekend - somebody sent me this screenshot of him advocating for more votes the richer you are. Total democracy perverts. His group Build Canada has the ear of the prime minister.
My quilt is bound and done. It isn't perfect but I need to practice what I preach and accept my mistakes and work with them. #QuiltSky
The government of Canada just published its “AI for All” consultation. How about let’s demand a total moratorium on data centres and generative AI? ised-isde.canada.ca/site/ised/en...

NEW from me: I took a deep dive for @ricochetmedia.bsky.social into the American hedge fund-owned Canadian newspaper chain that’s pushing anti-trans, pro-genocide and climate science denial narratives down our throats. ricochet.media/media/dumpst...
‘Dumpster fire’: Postmedia’s decade of pushing Canada’s politics to the right
Canada’s largest newspaper chain has amplified conservative grievance politics — creating fertile ground for MAGA-style ideas, Alberta separatism, and an increasingly polarized political landscape

Trying and failing to think of other reporting that illustrates how blatantly surveillance can be something applied to most of us without recourse but that the elite can choose to opt out of.
For Taylor Swift, Madison Square Garden’s Controversial Cameras Briefly Went Dark
MSG’s sprawling surveillance system can monitor guests down to the second. Its owners made an exception for the pop star’s rehearsal dinner.

Gotta love that I have never once received any correspondance from my Québec solidaire MNA until today. He is on track to lose the election in October to the Liberals or Parti québécois. Too little too late.
Would it be bad if I were to clandestinely take down my neighbours new and very annoying high pitched wind chime?
