When HAMNET came out in 2020, I was a new mother. A lot of media surrounding child loss was too much for me to handle. I avoided it until yesterday and finished the book in a day. What a dynamic depiction of grief. The writing enchanted me and I can't stop ruminating.

I started THE GOBLIN EMPEROR by Katherine Addison today. I am devouring it. It came out while I was in college, and I find it a travesty that it's been outside of my awareness until now! The social intrigue is a nice palatte cleanser to the more intense books I've been reading lately.

We've been raising chicks and one died today. She was the first creature I've ever comforted while dying. I'm young enough to be unfamiliar with death. It was equal parts desperate and reverent. Considering mortality wasn't on my agenda today.

This book was converted from a fanfic to a publishable book. The magic system was not explained well. The emotional weight was still there but it was hard to connect with the characters. I was grateful it got an edit, because the fanfic needed it, but it could have been 200 pages less. ⭐⭐⭐

Earlier this year I read Half His Age by McCurdy. It was literary and read like a sexually graphic cautionary tale. Today I started Margo's Got Money Troubles by Thorpe which is lighthearted and emphasizes the naivety of youth. Both stories are so similar yet so different!

I've noticed my proclivities to rate a book higher right when I finish it. My rating slowly regulates as time passes. What's the book version of rose colored glasses?

✨BOOK CLUB✨ This book had more wit than creepy moments. The sibling dynamic was captured impeccably; I laughed out loud twice while reading. The end had loose ends which left the reader questioning major world building mechanics. I loved the characters but felt the plot was lacking. ⭐⭐.75

I've been reading THE LION, THE WITCH, AND THE WARDROBE to my 5 year old this week. Watching her hang onto every word and discuss what's happening between chapters warms this book loving mom's heart to bursting! 📚💙

Sunrise on the Reaping was tragically poetic. Haymitch, a slow-witted boy, navigates a systematic regime. His journey from reluctant hero to broken coward keep me interested.
