In the 1990s, the working class of this country was told that unfettered free trade would create millions of new jobs and raise wages. As many of us understood then, that claim was a lie. Now they’re being sold the same false promises about AI.

I've seen people trying to defend it today by saying "No, no, I just use it to brainstorm, bounce ideas, I do the actual writing" and with all the kindness in the world I need to tell you: if there is a stage of writing you are not good at, you need to get good, not use the plagiarism machine.

Full stop No. This is a lie peddled for normalization. It's schoolyard-level pressure tactics "C'mon, all the cool kids are already doing it. We won't tell. It's fine. We're on your side."

They take pleasure in inflicting pain; they enjoy how tough they feel when they hurt someone else. It’s out of control and everyone who isn’t subject to it appears committed to ignoring it.
