About unread chat badges on the nav bar. We recently changed how chat unread counts work. Before: we would get the 31 (IIRC) most recently messaged convos and see if there were any unreads among them.

Idea for how to implement post editing. You have a Levenshtein Balance that you can track on Bluesky. Each day you don't edit a post, you earn 1 credit. You build up your credits and can use them to pay for the Levenshtein distance of the edit.

Three back-to-back weeks of releases: Standard Site, 10 photos, and Group Chats + Invites. Plus we announced our work on communities. BLUESKY SUMMER OF SHIPPING BAYBEEEE 🫡

communities are coming to Bluesky this year. today, Bluesky is one big space. communities will be smaller spaces inside that where you can go deeper and hang out with people who care about the same stuff.

Attention PDS devs! We merged a lexicon change last week increasing the max image upload for Bluesky posts from 1 MB to 2 MB. This rolled out to our PDSs instances last Friday. We'll begin enabling this in the Bluesky app soon. If your PDS implementation is still validating at 1 MB, plz update! ✌️

Related to this, we've been slowly rolling out a higher resolution limit for our image uploads, from 2000px^2 to 4000px^2. Until the below image size increase rolls out (soon), image sizes are still capped at 1 MB, so FYI you won't see immediate quality increase in all cases just yet.

If your own images have not been loading since yesterday, that's related to the jpeg -> webp migration we're doing, but the root cause seems to be the user's PDSs. I've seen 2 cases so far, and they were from users who migrated to 3rd party PDSs. The PDSs are not returning the blobs ...

We're rolling out a change in image format. If you see some images taking a second to load today, that's expected.

Hey devs! Heads up, we're planning on making some changes to our image CDN tomorrow. - Images will be served as WebP by default - The URL format you get from the Bluesky API will change a little You can look forward to an announcement about image quality soon 👀

we just rolled out an experimental integration with @germnetwork.com, an E2E encrypted chat app that integrates with atproto. Germ users can add a button to their profile so others can message them from Bluesky. we're exploring ways to connect your profile with other apps in the Atmosphere.

Demonstration of where the Germ DM button appears on your Bluesky profile after you pair your accounts within the Germ DM app.

Some implementation details for drafts: 1. Currently, on-protocol data (stored on the user's PDS) is always public. Permissioned, on-protocol data is currently being worked on by the protocol team. 2. Drafts, by their nature, must be private.

Has anyone using Personal Data Server tried the paid tier? I'm thinking of upgrading to Professional Data Server, not sure if it is worth it.

I'm excited to announce @skyseed.fund, the world's first incubator & fund exclusively focused on Bluesky and @atproto.com. We're just getting started but have $1 Million in committed capital, and will be doing developer grants as well as pre-seed/seed funding. www.prweb.com/releases/ope...

I did some writing about Jetstream, a lightweight version of the AT Proto firehose that's plain JSON over a websocket and without the MST/verification. It makes getting started building on AT Proto or Bluesky a lot lower friction if you trust your Jetstream operator. jazco.dev/2024/09/24/j...
