This is a worthy bookmark, as a resource for wireless comms with Arduino boards. Basically, it's a Wevolver walkthough of Wi-Fi, 4G, LoRa, NB-IoT, and Matter, with example use cases and Arduino recommendations. It's full title is: The Beginner's Cheat Sheet to Wireless Communication Protocols. For example, for each protocol,…

I love a good acronym, and I know what this MEANS - I just don't think that #TPTB behind this article thought about it going on the internet before, well... they put it on the internet. 😏 One more project for the back-burner, though. 😁 #RaspberryPI #NetworkAttachedStorage

Pi NAS: A Guide to Build Your Own Budget-Friendly NAS

NAS (Network Attached Storage) is a popular application for Raspberry Pi. However, how does it compare to the existing solutions available? How much time and effort does building your own Pi NAS take?...

More work tonight on my precise clock project; most visibly, I added a 20x4 LCD display. The current date and time are displayed at the top; the second line shows the last clock correction applied, and the fourth line is overall estimated error. More details in alt-text

a picture of a messy workbench cluttered with small electronic bits and bobs, with a raspberry pi 4 front and center. there's a GT-U7 GPS module, which is kinda crappy tbh, but it has a PPS out, so it works well enough! that GPS is connected to 5v/Gnd/UART (for serial) /GPIO (for PPS) on the pi4 GPIO. there's also a 20x4 LCD showing the date and time, then

S[1] -0.000000157sec (stratum 1, last correction 157 nanoseconds)
L[*] PPS (locked to high-precision PPS source)
SATS[07] -342ns (7 satellites used for time fix, overall error estimate is -342 nanoseconds)

that last field, overall error estimate, includes estimated network dispersion time, so not only keeping precise time but also serving it out to local clients.

I set up a stratum 1 NTP server, and am now serving extremely accurate and precise time to my local network! For most purposes, time within a few milliseconds is more than enough. Using about $60 in parts, I've got my clock to a maximum error of 3.262 microseconds. #NTP #GPS #PPS #timegeek

text output of chronyc tracking;

Reference ID is pps0, showing last offset of 7 nanoseconds! Highlighted is Root Dispersion, with a value of 3.262 microseconds. Root Dispersion is basically maximum expected error
