I like obscure old video games and make a lot of videos about them. I've documented all of the Nintendo Famicom library and I'm currently working on the PC Engine.

This is one of the big ones. It's impossible to understate just how influential Kamaitachi no Yoru is. This is a game that shaped Japanese games in the 90s. This group has now done the first two games in the Sound Novel series, and the next one is Machi which I have some opinions about...

I'm trembling while writing this: Kamaitachi no yoru—not the PC remake, not the iOS port, but the actual original SFC version—has been translated at last by ButThouMust, who graciously brought us an English patch for Otogirisou in the past. This is HISTORICAL.

There's nothing I love more in video game writing than paragraphs of exposition packed with completely irrelevant details that could deliver the exact same information with the exact same impact in two or three sentences. All great writers know that more detail equals better.

The shortest period of time from a game's release to it being played as a challenge on Game Center CX is Mario 64 which was nine years, seven months from game's release to episode airing (Steel Battalion and Roommania do not count as the show had a different format then).

I regret to inform you that the Kacho will be pontificating this month on a Game Center CX livestream whether or not it is time to expand the scope of retro gaming to include the PlayStation…3. And Nintendo Wii.

A screenshot of Game Center CX host Shinya Arino holding a Dual Shock 3 controller while a Nintendo Wii and fat model PlayStation 3 are in front of him, with large captions for Wii and PS3 superimposed along with Japanese text conveying shock and dismay (“What!?” “Intolerable!”)

For Random Game Saturday, I have a two-fer: Prince of Persia on the Game Boy, twice! The gray cart was was a 1992 port while the black cart is a 1999 port. As a black GBC cart, it works in the original GB. So Prince of Persia was ported to the Game Boy twice!

A gray Game Boy Prince of Persia cart and a black Prince of Persia Game Boy Color cart.

My goal is to have the next bonus episode up on Monday. It's all about a game that I don't think is very good, but is really interesting. That's the best kind of game to make a video about, after all! Wildly ambitious half the time, behind the times the other half. Secret sequel to a classic, too.

Best fighting games based on classic Chinese novels: Romance of Three Kingdoms: Dynasty Warriors (the original one) Water Margin: Outlaws of the Lost Dynasty Journey to the West: Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 3

The best thing about the EA buy out is going to be in two years time when they're auctioning off the thousands of properties they've been sitting on and doing nothing with them. I'm thinking of buying the Kesmai library. It'll probably only go for a dollar or two and then I'll own the first MMORPG.

Feel free to get mad over what they're doing with the text of the books, but destroying them for the scanning process isn't a big deal. People treat the physical object of books as a sacred things but not know the reality of old books: 99% of them are things nobody wants and are dumpster bound.

I'm 18 minutes into the audio track for my next bonus video and I'm finally reaching the game. There's that much weirdness around the game to get through first. Also, to be more specific, I'm at the demo for the game. Not the game itself.

Games I need to get b-roll of tonight: - Ultima 7 - Wizardry 7 - Ultima Underworld - System Shock - Deus Ex - Marathon 2 - Duke Nukem 3D (or Tekwar, but Duke shows things off better) - Wizards & Warriors I've got some b-roll pre-made for some of those, but not illustrating the features I want...
