I made GameHistory.org and you can too

This is my favorite retro game con, they put out the good stuff, and it's in a funky air and space museum. I'll be there lecturing, projecting slides into a giant IMAX theater showing Nintendo's abandoned attempt NES as a home lottery system. Later I will sip beer and play Barbie Fashion Designer.

Import retro games are more than just foreign exclusive titles, they’re completely different experiences like a rapid-fire light gun Famicom game found only in Japan as seen here with @frankcifaldi.bsky.social of VGHF. Check out the Retro Import showcase this week, Aug 7-9 at LI Retro. LIRetro.com

I'm really proud of how we approach cultural history: we curate, collect, interpret and provide access to it for free online. People ask if we'll open a museum and it's like...why? Museums are wonderful and I love them but we have 100x the impact of a museum at less than 5% of the cost.

If I looked down at my hands and saw Gamera looking back at me with absolute trust and affection like this I'm pretty sure all my problems would go away

I guess I'd never really seen a modern Fire Emblem before the GDQ stream that's on right now, it doesn't look BAD but it looks way more like A Video Game than I'm used to from a Nintendo product, it's kinda interesting. The English type face looks so...normal

I don't have comparisons yet but we came to this conclusion with some official B-roll footage of N64 games, on a dark level it was like some of the game fog lifted and you could see more of the environment off in the distance. RF capture of rare material has become almost mandatory for us

Insane detail gain from my hacked VCR. Dark scenes got crushed so bad. This is why I got so insane over needing VHS-Decode. Some tapes are basically unplayable without it.

God I didn't realize they were shutting down the PS3 and Vita stores too. Honestly, in our game availability study, we didn't even count PS3/Vita games as "available" because the stores were so broken that they barely worked. That's the long-term state of digital storefronts

As the director of a historical video game preservation institution, and someone who has dedicated his entire adult life to this cause, this is accurate. We have attempted to work with the industry's trade organization to find a legal path forward, but they refuse to offer a meaningful alternative.

piracy is the only extant form of media preservation that exists in games right now, you might find it morally reprehensible but there is literally no other institution that will keep games alive in 25, 50 years' time

Spending my morning writing a statement for press inquiries about all this when all I want to do is say "consumers haven't had purchasing power in about ten years now because we gave all of our money to like ten weird guys, what did you all expect"

My dream project at Digital Eclipse was making a light RPG out of the Namco Museum concept, think Game Center CX but in an elaborate arcade museum with a Da Vinci Code/Night At the Museum narrative. I wanted the challenge because I don't like playing these games as is but think they're kinda neat.
