Washer broken, Week 2. Sitting in a laundromat drinking quick-mart coffee, reading comics, with buds in so I don’t have to hear the lady down the row’s phone call on speaker about how her friend’s daughter’s boyfriend’s ex’s kid has been posting “suicidal shit” on Insta.

I always wish people happy birthday (etc) a day or two late. That way, they know that I actually remembered it myself instead of having just plugged a reminder into an app. Makes my felicitations seem more sincere and heartfelt than doing it on the actual date.

Woke up this morning feeling that today my brain would be filled with paranoia and the resulting induced feelings of stupidity. Self-fulfilling prophecies are a bitch. Deep breath. Bring on tomorrow.

When I see a scene in a movie where a woman drops her purse and a man helps her pick up what spilled out, and he stops to take a closer look at one of the items — usually a prescription bottle — I fervently wish she’d kick his nosy, toxic ass.

As a college communication instructor, I find this sickening and more than a little scary as a potential harbinger of things to come at other institutions of higher learning.

Disgraceful actions by @harvard.edu - destroying their writing program at a time when it's needed more than ever as "A.i." undermines everything. Deepest shame on this institution and all the best to @janerosenzweig.bsky.social. www.thecrimson.com/article/2026...

True story: Last night, I went to the theater for the new Gregg Araki movie. After i got a ticket from a kiosk and the attendant tore it, she handed me the stub, and looked at me and said, “I Want Your Sex in Theater 8. Behind me.” I didn’t stick around to look at the suddenly silent line of people.

Camping Day 3 - Walked this ravine-adjacent trail this morning. My dachshund seemed to enjoy it the most, since — due to his being 17 years old — I just carried him for the hike. 😆 Here are a pair of photos I took from the same point and vantage along the path.

When camping, once the sun is up, so am I. Gives me a chance to chill solo for an hour or two to start the day. Reading. Drinking (usually day-old) coffee. Listening to the sounds of nature from the woods around the campsite.

With temps in the mid-90s and way lofty humidity, today’s camping focus is reading, reading, and more reading. (With some walking the dogs around the state park and maybe a drink or three tonight.)

Well, despite — even as of last night — a forecasted 88% chance of multiple severe thunderstorms overnight and related warnings (damaging winds, hail), we got not one drop and no winds heavier than a light breeze. I’m happy with the meteorological win. On to camping Day 2 …

Camping sitrep, Day 1: Temps: low 90s High humidity Tents set up. Doggos content. Getting ready to eat a pre-prepped charcuterie-board dinner. Tonight: Expecting severe t-storms with damaging winds and possible hail 👍🏼 Tomorrow: Temps in the upper 90s, higher humidity, scattered t-storm or two

Hollywood is decades overdue on paying a lot(!) more attention to its female audiences. Look at movies that are typically considered female-oriented. Not many sequels much less franchises. Women appreciate a film enough to be happy with that one-off, and then look to new and creative other projects.

Right now, I’m outdoors watching a live blues quartet at a local winery for a few hours while enjoying a glass or two of red under the auspices of slightly overcast 77F weather. (Diagram that sentence.)
