Taylor and Travis’ wedding vows were supposedly 20 minutes each and as a wedding officiant that’s done hundreds and hundreds of weddings I don’t think you’re realizing how fucking long that is in wedding ceremony time.

So, the ref, who has been accused of corruption in the past, made a questionable call that FIFA (historically v. corrupt) overturned after being called by Trump (lol).

Imagine having the hubris to try to seize control of one of the world's great manifestations of human flourishing in a post-(Taylor's Version) world.

The reflecting pool is also one of the few things that is emotionally asymmetrical in our favor. While the pool is a mess, Trump clearly finds it distressing and it preoccupies him; if it were fixed tomorrow, most of us would just not think about it again.

This is probably obvious, but: the Reflecting Pool is so much fun to talk about because on the one hand it's a perfect little synecdoche for the whole disastrous second Trump presidency but on the other hand the stakes are pretty low.

Self-promotion is cool and all, but did you know that many universities have folks on staff who will enthusiastically promote your work for free? Try emailing your advancement staff and say "hey, I published this thing and I'm going to be in [city] on these dates" and see what happens

Yes, self promotion sucks, academics, but if you don’t do it nobody will find out about your work. The point is to publish and be read, not publish and hope you are discovered by fate, lifted out of a humble and pure obscurity so that you may be both famous and retiring

Time to play my favorite game "Can I make it through this meeting about AI without opining that the people most dedicated to AI are mid-career folks trying to leverage short term improvements AI provides to get faster promotions while knowing they'll retire before the bad long term effects happen?"

I keep thinking about the scene in Chernobyl where they keep ratcheting up the pressure and removing safeguards under the belief that they have a button that they can always press to shut everything down, which - in a twist of dramatic irony - is the thing that ultimately causes the explosion.

that the virginia supreme court allowed the referendum to go forward - they could have stopped it - and then ruled this way really gives up the game the only difference between now and then is that the we know the result and they didn't like it

Unpopular take, I know, but Comey and everyone else who uses "86" and who is not now or has not recently been employed in the hospitality industry should be prosecuted for stolen valor
