We saw Cole Kmet pass last season, and the Bears released a video last month of him launching another one. If he completes a pass this season, he'll be the first Bears tight end to ever do so. More here! @wiltfongjr.bsky.social @funkycoldluis.bsky.social readjack.wordpress.com/2026/08/04/b...
BEARS RECORD ALERT: Cole Kmet could become first Bears tight end to complete a pass
We almost saw history last season in the Bears-Bengals game, and I for one had no idea. First drive of the game, Cole Kmet throws a pass to Rome Odunze that is initially ruled complete and then ove…

Brandon Johnson has done a bad job as mayor and has earned much of his bad press. But the Sun-Times has been on his case since he made the runoff. And now they’re giving coverage to a mayoral announcement that looks like a campaign ad. This is the page design for someone who wins, not announces.
If you’re looking for a good, cheap nonfiction beach read—however you define that nebulous term—my book is on sale at Jeff Bezos’ discount junction.

BEARS RECORD ALERT: Cole Kmet just 29 catches away from Mike Ditka’s franchise tight end record
The last great moment of the magical 2025 Bears season was Cole Kmet on the receiving end of an improbable, instantly iconic Caleb Williams pass. No matter how the 2026 season goes, Kmet will be ma…

Bears camp is underway! Here is one of my favorite interviews, 2013 training camp, with Adam Podlesh telling me his favorite Robbie Gould kick. His answer will surprise you — it surprised me! @wiltfongjr.bsky.social @funkycoldluis.bsky.social
While looking for a picture to use for our countdown to the preseason opener, I found this one of ex-Bears punter Todd Sauerbrun completing a 2-point conversion vs. the Packers. I just needed somebody to share this with, so thanks for providing me the opportunity. 🐻⬇️
Kyle Shanahan's description of smashing into another driver because he took his eyes off the road to find his phone while speeding is harrowing. Good for him for clarifying. Too few people learn until their affected. www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/...
Olha isso!!!! Sensacional!
As @tylerparker.bsky.social notes, rewatching LeBron's first NBA game is really fun, and illuminating. You should also watch LeBron's first Nike commercial, filmed with most of the key figures of his actual first game. www.youtube.com/watch?v=ad9-...
Really enjoyed this from @tylerparker.bsky.social. This is how you diversify sportswriting while also digging into the details.
Wrote about LeBron and the art of ending well.
In 2013, I had the honor and privilege of interviewing Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. I was telling him about showing 90s NBA clips to my high school journalism students, and he told me to show them “Bill Russell Block Art.” Not, “show them Russell.” He named the clip! m.youtube.com/watch?v=nWFs...
This is a great example of newspaper design, from the Sun-Times, and how design is part of news coverage and news judgment.
Hey, I'm back to doing BN Bears Bullets on weekends. 🐻 I shared some favorite Dick Butkus memories 🏈 A look at where PFF ranks Colston Loveland 🚑 Chicago's Week 1 opponent gets dealt a serious injury 👕 NFL fashion updates worth discussing ✍️ And more! @bn-bears.bsky.social | tinyurl.com/ymsxx949

Did You Notice Where Darnell Wright Was on the Bears’ Game-Winning TD?
If you didn't notice where Darnell Wright was lined up on Caleb Williams' game-winning touchdown pass on Wild Card Saturday, just know that you are not alone.

The first great centerfielder for the Yankees, Earle Combs’ inside-out swing served him well in the leadoff spot with four pennant winning clubs (he would win another SEVEN as a Yankee coach). Here’s my painting of him smiling for the photographer (Charles Conlon) and me in 1926!
I’m glad to see this perspective from the Indiana side
COMMENTARY: Let’s hope the Chicago Bears stay in Illinois
I’ve been an AF officer for 30 years. My father was Army and AF for 30 years. My grandfathers were in the Navy and Army. I hate the performative “salute to heroes” at sporting events, and I wish we would remove the national anthem from every sporting event that doesn’t involve national teams.
My “stick to sports” column 10 years ago opened with me at Wrigley not standing during a soldier tribute. While I would stand now, I’ve had a complex history with standing for the Anthem and tributes. If a stranger slapped me for it, we’re fighting. www.windycitygridiron.com/2016/9/28/13...
This is a terrible statement from the Cubs in part because it’s anti-American! We’re free to not stand.
Total joke of a response from the Cubs. They both sides-ed someone getting assaulted. www.nbcchicago.com/mlb/chicago-...
Happy anniversary to the Kinky Wizards record release party and the triumphant return of DJ Rob Gordon! I watched “High Fidelity” last night for the first time in over a decade and it was as great as ever. Salute to John Cusack and my old football buddy D.V. DeVincentis. And RIP Double Door 😔🥹
This is all you need to know about what part of a man’s body is the most sensitive.

More than 500 people have sent letters in support of @chicagoreaderunion.bsky.social. Can we double that by the end of the weekend? It takes less than a minute to send a letter to management on our behalf.
The Chicago Reader Union has been bargaining w/ Noisy Creek since February. In that time, management has consistently offered proposals that would cut longstanding benefits in exchange for meager pay raises. We need YOU to tell Noisy Creek we deserve better! 🧵 🔗: actionnetwork.org/letters/tell...
@readjack.bsky.social already examined the #Bears having the first ever long snapping specialist in the #NFL, but did you know they also had the first kicking specialist too?!? Check out his latest at WCG here: www.windycitygridiron.com/chicago-bear...
