Something interesting I forgot to mention from my trip to central Ohio this weekend: We were clearly in Republican territory, based on all the yard signs—but there were also a ton of yard signs that said NO DATA CENTERS. Nobody wants this shit!

I was just on a call with three other people who all work from home, and we all decided to end the call because we collectively had to finish our laundry.
This weekend I went on a trip with friends to Ohio to go stargazing. Unfortunately, those plans got rained out. But we did see signs for an actual tent revival featuring the miraculous “man with no vocal cord” (singular), and we figured out that our Airbnb was owned by Christian missionaries. 🙃🙃🙃
Today I went to see the Hopewell Mound Group in the rain and learned that I need new waterproof shoes.
I moved to Louisville in early 2022 and it shocks me how often I have to inform lifelong Louisvillians about all the cool stuff happening in their city. Yesterday I broke the news to a neighbor about the free, outdoor Shakespeare festival that’s been happening every summer since 1961.
Last night I worked myself up into a frenzy about the fact that I can’t do everything. Not as in “I’m overwhelmed because I have so much to do,” but as in “I’m full of despair because there are so many things I want to do and yet I am constrained by having only one body and only 24 hours in a day.”
Book 35 of 2026: A CENTURY OF CHANGE 1912-2012: LORETTO’S SECOND CENTURY by Patricia Jean Manion SL & many other Loretto Community members. I’m in the process of joining @lorettolink.bsky.social and this book is a remarkable history of bold women working toward social justice.
Book 34 of 2026: SPREAD ME by @sarahgailey.bsky.social. What if The Thing but horny? I devoured it in one sitting. 🦠
Shout out to the woman at Trader Joe’s who was wearing the same dress as me, which we both presumably bought at Target something like six years ago. Our grocery fashion is on point.
In Louisville, once a year we come together as neighbors to drink beer in the street and watch our community “elders” hit a small stick with a bigger stick. Happy Dainty, everyone.
Someone thought I was in my 20s again today. I shall share my secret to eternal youth: Naturally oily skin and crop tops.
Had a Possession (1981) and Obsession (2026) double feature. The first movie was certainly better than the second, though I genuinely think Inde Navarrette could go head to head with Isabelle Adjani in terms of screaming like an absolute maniac.
Been thinking about how, while I often long for a sense of consistency, certainty, or security, I tend to thrive in change, uncertainty, and insecurity because my mind also associates consistency, certainty, and security with being stuck or trapped. Brains are fun!
AMC’s Interview with the Vampire series has been renewed for a fourth season. Unholy blessings upon us.

Do I know any Kentucky folks who can put me in touch with Charles Booker? Not asking for me—asking for some extremely liberal nuns who want to hold a senatorial debate at their Motherhouse. But they don’t want to invite Barr unless they know for sure Booker is in 😂
I have an op-ed in @thecourierjournal.bsky.social today about how Mitch McConnell is modeling harmful attitudes toward aging and death: www.courier-journal.com/story/opinio...
McConnell embodies America's unhealthy attitude toward death | Opinion
Sen. Mitch McConnell's refusal or inability to step down and focus on his health demonstrates a larger issue of denial in America.

My route took me past Dairy Kastle so I had to get ice cream. It’s the law.
How do people survive in cities where they don’t have free Shakespeare in the park? Just curious

Book 33 of 2026: AGAINST THE STATE by @jamesstout.bsky.social. I was familiar with much of the Spanish Civil War stuff because I’m a history nerd, but the parts about Myanmar and Rojava were eye-opening, heartbreaking, and inspiring. Jin jîyan azadî!
@margaret.bsky.social I googled “kings who died via boar attacks” and I found two so far: John I of Aragon in 1396 and Prince Emeric of Hungary (who was later canonized a Catholic saint) in 1031. Thank you for distracting me from laundry!
I wish I were the type of person who wanted to garden. Or to cook. Or to sew. I haven’t a domestic bone in my body.
This week, TPS for Haitians is expected to end. No state will feel the impact more than Florida, home to roughly 350,000 -- many of them healthcare workers. “The workers are suffering, but the patients are going to suffer more.” My latest for @motherjones.com: www.motherjones.com/politics/202...
Florida's nursing homes are bracing for life without Haitian TPS workers
The Supreme Court ended its legal status. Their patients will pay the price.

My neighbors and I went to the pawpaw Ale-8 release party, which may be a sentence that only makes sense if you live in Kentucky.

Book 32 of 2026: THE CIPHER by @kkoja.bsky.social. As I was reading this cosmic/body horror combo I was initially under the impression that I didn’t like it, but by the time I finished the book I think I really, really liked it? Is the novel itself a funhole? Perhaps…
As it turns out, I am once again volunteering at Hildegard House tonight because another volunteer had a family emergency. Which is to say, please read this thread and consider supporting a good cause! 🙏
I’m spending my evening volunteering at Hildegard House, so how about a quick thread about what that means? Hildegard House is Kentucky’s only comfort care or omega home. That is to say, it’s a place where people can come to live while receiving hospice care if they have nowhere else to stay.
