PhD student Saku Mäki-Ikola gave the first REC seminar talk titled “Forest structural and compositional drivers of biodiversity”. 🍄 In the afternoon, we celebrated the new season and our staff’s success in recent funding calls with sparkling & snacks!
🍃 Doctoral researcher Jasmi Näsäkkälä at #ISME20, Auckland. Main poster takeaway: Land use history explains more variation in rhizosphere microbiomes than drought. ➡️ Long-term ecological context may be more important than recent climatic conditions. However, host phenotype also plays a part.
PhD researcher Veera Nieminen at #ISME20, Auckland. 🌿 Veera's poster explored how the demographic history of host plants shapes leaf microbiomes. 🌿 Leaf microbiome is an integral part of the plant phenotype, and it can influence plant resilience, health and interactions with other species.
