Listening to F. Scott Fitzgerald's letters while I edit this Gatsby chapter. He's fussing over exclamation point placement, and single words and two paragraphs about "The Jazz History of the World" that thinks are still kind of rocky. (He's like me fr.)

reading my worst ex's memoir because I have to edit a chapter of my memoir. I can think of a lot of things I've done to deserve this, but it still seems harsh

I need a good toddler book about the periodic table of the elements STAT. My two year old just learned all the symbols in the Moon and Serpent Magical alphabet for some reason and is even using them in rudimentary spells. I need to distract him.

This kind of soaring rhetoric is so infuriatingly misplaced from a company like Meta. Maybe Apple, which has some credibility for making frictionless products, could get away with it, but Meta? You should introduce a product like this by apologizing; no one trusts you.

Has the game Blue Prince caused a Maze resurgence? When I was writing my essay on the cult '80s puzzle book by Christopher Manson, my editor @electricliterature bought me a copy for less than $10. But now you can't get it used for less than $100. @henryholtbooks don't miss your chance for a reprint.

gearing up to get another book ready to send into the world right now and i just wanted to take a second to say that you should get your hands on a copy of SIMPLICITY if you like anything i've ever made. i'm still so immensely proud of it.

and while I'm on the subject of books that deserved to be a massive sensation, I still think @mattielubchansky.com's Simplicity is the great book of the regrettably ongoing moment we're living through and besides that it's beautiful and funny and somehow genuinely hopeful

Love this energy. “Don’t have an opinion on the thing I’ve made until you’ve made it exactly the way I made it.” They should go a step further and not let anyone watch it either.

I'm surprised at how hard this article is triggering the trads. It's a searching meditation on pregnancy and miscarriage but they're reacting like it's a culture war broadside. Are they literally all bots?https://www.newyorker.com/books/under-review/the-unsettling-ambiguity-of-early-pregnancy

The Unsettling Ambiguity of Early Pregnancy

Binary tests offer an illusion of certainty, but pregnancy is a nonlinear experience, and confirming one is a process of slowly ruling out all other possibilities.

I live in a neighborhood where I can walk to coffee shops, three grocery stores and a library, and kids bike around everywhere! So I guess I mog you all.

This is the problem with brain worms. When strangers don’t coo over my toddler, I’m shocked, sure but I just talk about it with my husband and we laugh at ourselves. I don’t post it on the internet as evidence of societal decline.

My toddler’s feet aren’t cute anymore. Every other part of him is little and adorable but his feet are these disconcerting clodhoppers. The shoe situation is unreal.

I think Patricia Lockwood should have a gossip column. Everyone would have oblique poetic allusions instead of names, but it would be funny and the tea would SCALD.

A lot of resentment comes from the fact that people think about agents backward. I am writing a Substack about this, but I also managed to put Sherlock Holmes into it.
