If you stood on Briggate at 8am on a weekday in 1957, and stood there again in 2026, in which year could you reach more of the city in half an hour? Samuel Bancroft has crunched the numbers. Since the 1950s, Leeds has got bigger - but the city has effectively shrunk.

With #LeedsPride coming up this weekend, here's a reminder that Leeds Other Paper was doing this stuff long before many of today's revellers were born. As well as relevant news and features, LOP launched its 'Out in the North' column back in 1987. Long gone, never forgotten.

Leeds Other Paper closed down the year after we moved up north but it makes me happy that we had a popular radical paper here for a while. And my workplace maintains a complete archive - would be wonderful to see it fully catalogued or even digitised some day: tinyurl.com/mrksnddm
