Haven't followed his career in a long while but wasn't there a whole bit in his book about the importance of presenting evidence transparently, not cherry picking your data to support a particular view or outcome? Sounds like a fine principle to apply to the legacy of a dead public figure tbh

Sad to see people posting on social media negatively about Rod Liddle, who died yesterday. If I have disagreed with you very strongly in life - and you die - I hope I'll be either silent, or kind.

Imagine living your life as Rod Liddle did, in such a way that leads to such intense celebration when you die. Contorting yourself weekly to conjure up more bile for pay. I'm sure we'll get the usual about not speaking ill of the dead but it sure looks like he went to quite the lengths to invite it.

God I hate this phrase 'can it wash its own face', in relation to public infrastructure that the state now only values if it can be made to turn a profit Where is it from? Public infrastructure isn't an infant child that needs to grow up faster, it's a public good that needs to be publicly funded!

The real photos of real information professionals peppered throughout the site really highlight the hot slop garbage that dominates. The website itself appears to be horribly vibecoded too, especially apparent on mobile. I'm sure members will be delighted.

Performing and creative arts university courses will no longer receive funding from a government teaching grant as part of “difficult decisions” about spending priorities, Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson has said.

I think it's pretty important for kids to learn that their own interests and their employers' will often diverge, and that it's good and indeed necessary to resist subordinating your own to your bosses' occasionally. They wouldn't give us weekends and bank holidays off if they had a choice ffs.

Spent all morning in a tiny, idyllic bay on the east coast of Gozo. Tim went into the sea and came out five minutes later waving around a HARPOON GUN that he'd found in there, which a local woman helpfully informed us was very illegal. Otherwise an incredible experience.
