Dawn of Sorrow didn't try to change what wasn't broken giving what Aria was lauded for a nice polish instead with the added gimmick of the DS' stylus. And with a fantastic musical score to go with another delicious serving of beastly bustle, Castlevania fans had another fiendish hit on their hands!
Finishing the game unlocks a variety of neat features like a boss rush mode. Conversely, getting the worst ending also unlocks "Julius" mode allowing players to experience the adventure as the whip wielding Julius Belmont, one of Soma's erstwhile allies, along with the magic-using Yoko Belnade!
It also used the Nintendo DS' touchscreen stylus for "magic seals". Beating a boss wasn't enough: players would have to trace a glyph to finally destroy it. Messing it up means you'll have to fight it a bit more again before getting another chance, and you're also timed on how fast you can do it.
Yoko Belnade, whom Soma met in Aria, returns to lend her magical talents with a new feature. Now, she can transform weapons into new forms using specific souls. So depending on how much grinding you want to do, Soma can end up with some frightening weapons if he's willing to make the sacrifice!
As in Aria, equipping these turned Soma into a one man arsenal. With them, he can wield giant blades, solve special puzzles, improve stats, or get carried like royalty. While some can be passive, he only has so many slots for other types so choosing which ones to use became part of the challenge.
The Tactical Souls system let Soma absorb souls from defeated monsters. A few were set in place for him to get, such as from specific bosses, but most of these would rely on sometimes ruthless RNG on whether or not a beastie might drop theirs. For those who want all of them, get ready to grind!
Like Aria, Dawn clung closely to its metroidvania roots with a maze of gothic passages (automapped in the top DS screen!) dense with distinctive biomes, strange puzzles, mysterious encounters prodding the story forward, and even sneakier twists to confound map readers on where to go next.
A surprising change was in using anime-styled illustrations for its characters in a bid to appeal to a younger demographic (Ayami Kojima, working on Curse of Darkness, did not return for this title). On the flip side, Michiru Yamane with Masahiko Kimura scored another series of incredible tunes.
Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow (2005) was an action RPG for the Nintendo DS by Konami. It's 2036, a year after the events of Aria of Sorrow, and in Japan, Soma Cruz is once again at the center of a battle over Dracula's legacy as a mysterious cult seeks to revive his power! (an evil mirror thread)

Gotta watch Stand Alone Complex one of these days, i have only seen some loose episodes and i already know Lilithium Flower is playlist worthy.
She's so Number Nine… Two years after it first aired in Japan, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex received its Adult Swim broadcast on November 7th, 2004. Not sure if it got delayed from a July slot as the ad here seems to suggest it was due for. 📖: Electronic Gaming Monthly, August 2004
