One chapter with him in Old Man's War and Master Sergeant Ruiz is already in the running for one of the greatest fictional basic training instructors ever. Reminds me a lot of my OCS Drill Instructors, who knew we weren't kids and needed some breaking down.

Yesterday I sent a long thoughtful email to a friend's son with advice for his internship. He replied with an AI regurgitation of what I said. It made me wonder how long it'll be before the high quality info from human thought is totally filtered out. Apparently, not long.

Finished Blood Meridian so before my thoughts are influenced by any other discourse I will say, I enjoyed it and found it very interesting. I certainly do not understand its viral appeal or why it's considered so incredible.

Chugging through Blood Meridian, just made it about halfway. Interesting but not really enthralling. Mostly just fascinated with how people lived and traveled back then.
