Is there a way I'm missing that you can filter the trending topics field to ANYTHING BUT THE US? I really don't care what the most popular American topics are. The Other Place at least lets you choose by geographical region. @bsky.app

So, because successive UK Govs have done zilch about increasing prison capacity, their solution is to just let offenders out early. Wait until the first woman is murdered by a domestic abusing ex getting out & hunting her down. Meanwhile Gov just apologises in advance. It's a disgrace.

Sometimes 'traditions' need to go. Whatever the reasons for this hunt in the past, they do not exist now. It is not 'bullying' to say that the annual butchery of young birds 'just because we've always done it' is no longer acceptable. Thank you #NatureScot for showing compassion and sense. #guga

Scottish islanders refused permission to stage annual guga hunt

Each year hundreds of gannet chicks are killed for their meat on the uninhabited Hebridean island of Sula Sgeir.

I get we're in the middle of an Odyssey craze, so ppl are going loopy over all things mythological, but is anyone else finding the already exhaustive glut of novels reimagining the lives of Greek goddesses a bit, I dunno, much? It's like the Everything Anne Boleyn era all over again. 🙄 #booksky

I can't be sure if the thumping headache I have tonight is the result of dehydration, too little sleep, or the effects of a mislaid contact lens potentially stuck behind my eye for the last 24 hours. 😵‍💫

Tom Kerridge really gets my back up in his ads, especially the latest about the wonderful lives of the pigs on a farm, while he stands surrounded by plates of pork & salami. Making pigs & cows happy before you kill them is NOT 'animal welfare'. Ugh. I hate carnivores. 🥺🐷

The current obsession from #Ancestry is Irish records. I have ZERO Irish ancestry. My tree states this very clearly. Still, that doesn't stop their p*ss poor algorithm fishing out any Irish random with the same name as my ancestors & hinting every bloody day that they *might* be mine. 🙄 #genealogy

I hope Thomas Haynes' executors fulfilled his wish. What a lovely gesture in 1645, to give his books to a 'publique library' and to pay for them to be taken there. What became of them? Do any sit today on a modern library shelf? What a legacy that would be! 📚❤️ #earlymodern #libraries #books

From the London PCC will of Thomas Hayne, 1645. "Item I give and bequeath all my other books whatsoever not above mentioned and bequeathed to the Chaier and Aldermen and Corporation of Lester to bee kept and defended[?] forever in a publique library there already made or to bee made hereafter.

Item I give for and towards the carryinge of my said bookes to this said library fower pounds. "

My win for the day is a letter from my mortgage provider saying they've reviewed my account, and from August my monthly repayment will be £9.46 less. Woohoo! 😄 🪅 All those little bits of overpayment are starting to work! 🏠

Watching another doc about the disappearance of the Princes in the Tower, peddling the tired old Henry VII/Shakespeare narrative that Richard III killed them. I wish ppl would read Philippa Langley's book on the evidence she found in Europe. It suggests the truth was nothing of the kind. #history

I'm probably being thick but can someone from @ihgs.bsky.social please explain how to access the July Anytime Talk as a student? It says it is available until 3rd August on the website but I'm looking at the list in the student area and it isn't there. Am I missing something? 🥺 #genealogy

A question for #Booksky folks. When buying books, do you avoid the versions with movie/TV adaption pics on the cover? Everything's adapted these days, & I want to to use my own imagination for the characters' faces, not some actor's I can then never separate from the story. Is that weird? 😐
