Addiction is a serious illness affecting millions of Americans. RICAREs: The Recovery Community Organization for RI provides support groups similar to Alcoholics Anonymous, but without the god stuff! Whether you're recovering from religion or addiction, there is hope! www.ricares.org/
We love RI. RI residents are good people with morals & values. When local hate groups began a crusade to persecute LGBTQ+ kids, the people responded. With every hate speech given, every trans child bullied, Rhode Islanders responded with love & resolve steveahlquist.substack.com/p/cumberland...
For generations mankind was dominated by Theocracy. One small but proud colony became the first government to protect religious freedom, and it was a big deal. The US was the first major world power that included the separation of church & state in its legal code www.riatheists.org
How accessible are your local governmental bodies for people who can’t be at meetings in person? We released an update to our 2023 report, where we look at city and town councils' and school committees’ policies. Spoiler: There hasn’t been much progress.

Catholics were subject to discrimination during our country's early years, but not at the hands of atheists or muslims- Christian denominations who came to the US brought with them old European prejudices, and rising Catholic immigration led to resentment. www.riatheists.org
In 1790, George Washington visited Touro Synagogue in Newport, Rhode Island. Following his visit, he wrote a historic letter to the congregation declaring that the U.S. government "gives to bigotry no sanction, to persecution no assistance." This was a precursor to the Bill of Rights
Did you celebrate the 4th of July yesterday? Chances are, you celebrated with an atheist or two, or at least stood next to one at a parade. We continue our educational campaign featuring Rhode Island History, our place in the founding principles of our country, and why it's okay to be patriotic
The claim there aren’t atheists in foxholes is inaccurate and disrespectful. Anyone who puts their life on the line to defend the country deserves admiration. It takes altruism to do so without religion The policy of religious liberty in the US armed forces goes back to the Continental Army
Every June, we watch as our troops are weaponized by bigots on social media. While Christian Nationalists only pretend to care about veterans, Rhode Island Atheists is genuinely thankful for those who have served our country and fought for the ideals America was founded on. WWW.RIATHEISTS.ORG
Patriotism, Rhode Island History, Religious Freedom & America's Birthday- Our first post in our educational campaign we call "America 250: Freedom of Conscience" highlights the signficance of RI's founding. Over a century before America, one colony was leading the way in freedom. www.riatheists.org
Tomorrow 100k people will attend PVD Pride. Stop by our table for goodies & conversations In 1976 residents sought to hold RI's first Pride event. They were opposed by Chief McQueeney ("over my dead body") & Mayor Cianci, who argued being gay was illegal, but they lost in court www.riatheists.org
With Pride Month reaching it's climax, the deplorable anti-LGBT comments we see remind us why RI was founded. Roger Williams established our state as a place where all are free. It's okay to believe in religion , it's just not okay to impose those beliefs on others. www.riatheists.org
Although the Rhode Island Voting Rights Act failed to pass this year, some good things came out of this year's state legislative session. And a special shout out to the RI elected officials who showed the integrity & principles to support this year's RI Day of Reason! www.riatheists.org
Upcoming Dates to mark on your calendars: 6/20 Providence Pride (Msg us to volunteer or march) 6/21 Monthly Meeting (new rotation, msg us for details)
With this past weekend's amazing Pride events done and another week til Providence Pride, we're looking at several other projects. Our organization is about more than just meetings & testimonies. We're constantly evolving, and we are developing new ways to get involved. www.riatheists.org
Read Secretary Amore's statement following the passage of a $45 million bond question for the construction of a Rhode Island State History Center in the FY2027 State budget by the Rhode Island General Assembly.
Although we are an atheist organization, we don't attack people for being believers and we treat our religious friends respectfully. We're not trying to convert anyone. But the hate from some religious groups strengthens our atheism. A "loving god” would not send followers to attack LGBT people
Did you know? Last year, our state successfully fought back against book bans and protected librarians from persecution. In 2025, RIA joined a wonderful coalition of community partners in passing the Freedom to Read Act. Check out our special recap of some of our fight for this legislation.
Although we are amused by comparisons to little red monsters with pitchforks and evil masters with horns, our organization takes Pride Month very seriously. Now more than ever, it is paramount to stand up on behalf of equality & LGBTQ+ rights.
The Separation of Church & State is as American as Apple Pie. Let us never forget this monumental ideal that our country's brave men & women have given their lives for. Happy Memorial Day Rhode Island.
Watch Representative @jenstewart4ri.bsky.social introduce Rhode Island Atheists in the RI House of Representatives for the 2026 Day of Reason.
The Countdown is on! We're confirming the last remaining details of the big day. In the meantime, check out some of our awesome new accessories!
The badguys call us Demons. But we get a kick out of that. Demons don't exist. People do. Let's take responsibility for the world around us.
