Also, this can't be stressed enough: the Treasury doesn't have a bank account like people and businesses do, with income and outgoings. When the government spends money it creates it. That's not consequence free, but saying the government's finances are like a household budget was a lie.

It's driving me insane. The govt spends £1.4 trillion a year. Borrowing estimates are often by tens of billions over a year. But we're supposed to imagine money is budgeted to the last penny.

Listening to Sir Anthony Seldon talking at ALSO Festival about Brexit and finding it wholly unsatisfactory. I think he is a highly intelligent, educated and well meaning fool. Unfortunately there are many such people.

Raising a glass to the chap who once wished me "happy Pi Day" and, being British, I answered I preferred to celebrate it on the 22nd July, and he retorted "but that's just an approximation!"

"Briefing against" only exists be because journalists are on the team. Powerful people should not be given license to trash less powerful people without putting their name to it but that is 90% of british political journalism

Sienna rodgers:
Labour MP Karl Turner just told @TimesRadio effectively that Angela Rayner called the shots yesterday and that PM needs to sack Morgan McSweeney or be ‘up against it’ himself

He says Labour MPs feel if they disagree with a policy they get briefed against & emphases he’s never met McSweeney

I always think this stands out in conversations with lots of backbenchers – many have a feeling that this powerful figure is totally unknown to them personally and therefore that lobby journalists (who do know him) are closer to the centre of power than they are

It's like the person I heard of who found that posting a question on StackOverflow and then immediately answering it incorrectly using a sock puppet account was an infallible strategy for baiting nerds into supplying the correct answer who otherwise wouldn't have bothered.

stop using AI to do your research. it hallucinates too often. if you want an answer to something, post something arrogant on the appropriate subreddit. something like: "this item performs 10% better than everything else. only idiots deny this." this will bait nerds into doing your research for you.
