What if... Hear me out, here. What if things got better? Just a little? Just once?
I wonder when I'll stop being sad about the things my mom isn't going to be able to do. ...maybe some time after I sell off her WorldCon 2027 membership.
Honestly, I'd love to get a definitive answer about the Voynich Manuscript. Even if that answer is just, "this one monk had too much time on his hands and a vivid imagination, it was easier to give him a bunch of vellum rather than keep listening to his ramblings."
What's your personal great white whale of an unsolved mystery? The thing you desperately hope is solved before you die because you need to know the answer? Mine is the Isabella Stewart Gardener Museum heist. Where the hell are the Rembrandts. I need the full story
This is a sheer indulgence on my part, but it turns out I never actually shared the poem here, so: 🍃

Okay, @erikaishii.bsky.social gets a pass, but ALL the rest of you who never told me of the existence of CYBERSIX are on notice. I've been deprived of a cross-dressing, patent leather-clad gynoid superhero animated like Batman my whole life. This show is incredible. 😍
Yesterday someone pointed out that on Twitter the main reaction to Nolan's Odyssey is still yelling about race-neutral casting and here the reaction is debate over Emily Wilson's review. I'd just like to add that on Tumblr, they're cheering on Wilson and (checks notes) "feasting on his entrails."
So it turns out that sometimes, being social and leaving your apartment is a good time. Who knew?
Going to boost this one last time, while it's still the most recent episode. Check out my story in Escape Pod!
Escape Pod 1054: Takahata-fudo
If you walk far enough along the old Keio line rail tracks to the west of the crumbling city, you eventually reach a steep hillside covered in blue and purple flowers, host to a beautiful wreck of a…

So last night I was apparently possessed by the sudden desire to sculpt an entire friggin ball joint doll, apparently. I stayed up until 1 AM to get this far, but I'm pleased so far! Any guesses who or what it's going to be?
In February, USA Rugby banned trans women from all levels of one of the world’s most inclusive sports. What happened next was telling. Across the country, teams refused to comply. The story of the Baltimore Ferals, who are pushing back: www.thebanner.com/sports/rugby...
"In 1950, the FBI opened a file on a woman in the Midwest. She wasn't a spy. She was a blacklisted female writer who made the mistake of documenting how American women starved." Meridel Le Sueur: the woman who refused to stop writing. lnkd.in/g9xZjRZH
Oh no, the Jessie Gender Starfleet Academy video keeps making me cry. Damn it. It's such a good show, and so much smarter more self-aware than I realized. I'm mad all over again that it got cancelled so quickly. ...but I guess that's better than watching Larry Ellison's version of it.
Mellow endweek, sophont observers! Today we bring you a story of post-apocalyptic Japan, but not one of those Mad Max apocalypses, in "Takahata-fudo" by Meridel Newton. Check it out!

One more time for the afternoon crowd: read my stuff! (And if you like it, feel free to comment, share, repost, etc etc etc.)
I am so very pleased to announce that my story, Takahata-fudo, is now out from Escape Pod! This story is my tribute to some of the less-touristy parts of Tokyo, and it could, if you squint, be considered part of the greater universe of the Shelter Trilogy.

i'm really enjoying a lot of men on the internet discovering that greek mythology is like star wars lore amongst a certain subset of women and girls if you're allowed to argue about greedo for like 50 years let them talk about their thing and let it ride
Beardless regulations, no women, no people of color, and now this. I think we all just need to realize that Trump and Hegseth think the military has to look like World War II propaganda films. No, not our films. You know the ones.
Hegseth announced they're gonna start screening for T and administering testosterone treatment for warriors found wanting
The Supreme Court is facing a major corruption crisis. I'm proud to introduce the High Court Gift Ban Act, with @raskin.house.gov and @lujan.senate.gov, to remove the influence of dark money from our nation’s highest judicial body. We must safeguard the sanctity of our democracy.
Who knew the thing that would reinvigorate game shows as a genre would be a nigh-on antagonistic relationship between the hapless players and the joyfully sadistic imp of a host? Has anyone tried saying Sam Reich's name backwards yet?
Utterly delighted that the Rayearth reboot is not attempting to modernize the wonderfully ridiculous CLAMP designs in any way.
Hills I Will Die On, By Marissa Lingen Age Almost 48: Social science fiction is science fiction.
It is amazing the things men will say to you when all you do is smile and make blandly encouraging noises in response.
