Cystatin C is a more informative marker of kidney function than creatinine alone. Combining creatinine and cystatin C provides the most accurate assessment of kidney function and patient risk. Wider adoption is limited by test availability. kidney.pub/JASN1201?... #ASNJASN

Jack of all trades nurse practitioner, trail runner photographer, coonhound rescuer, lover of glucagon agonism in the liver, kidney and pancreas, fascinated by obesity medicine, retatrutide fan boy, thoughts my own not my employers
August 2023. I posted this on my Facebook. Later that day I did a brief interview with an obesity researcher. He suggested I enroll in a retatrutide trial. The next day I called the trial site and passed the pre-screening exam. The rest is history.
Salad niçoise for dinner tonight! Fresh tomatoes and shallots from the garden, olives, capers, yellowfin tuna and eggs. Drizzled with olive oil. One of my favorite salads!
Yay my requested samples arrived today! I feel like people are sleeping on this drug. Oral PCSK9i drug! Almost zero side effects. Priced cheaper than the injectables. Have a few patients lined up to try it out for their severe high cholesterol!

One of the single most obnoxious and objectively dishonest things you can do with data. Exaggerate the y-axis. But I suppose when you're trying to hide that your drug has a GI tolerability issue that's one way to make it look better.
Discovered that Eli Lilly did a full metabolomics and lipidomics study in the phase 2 retatrutide trials and holy lord my nerd brain is exploding reading this paper. This stuff straight up rewires your metabolism and lipids(in a very good way)
I will be seeking this vaccine out for myself this year. Had Flu A last year despite the usual flu bad and it sucked. This vaccine had notably better efficacy and anything that improves my odds to not get flu again.
This is a great day for public health. “In a move that seemed out of reach just six months ago, the Food and Drug Administration approved Moderna’s influenza vaccine for older adults on Wednesday, the first licensed flu shot made using messenger RNA technology.” @jackiantonovich.bsky.social
Absolutely insane numbers from Eli Lilly this morning. 15 billion dollars in sales for tirzepatide alone, in just 90 days. Now on track to ~55-60 billion in sales for one drug. We need a different term than blockbuster drug. This is wild.
How do you hide poor trial results? In your earnings report with 8pt font. Reimagine 4, Cagrisema vs Tirzepatide again shows the superiority of Tirzepatide. Statistically significant better A1c reduction and numerically better weight loss from the efficacy estimand. What's that mean in English?

Some insurance companies are really out of control. Patient denied a medication today because I didn't provide proof they had abstained from alcohol. In fact the patient has had 3 negative PEth tests(which detects chronic alcohol use) they don't drink alcohol! I just can't even anymore 🤬🤬🤬
Sunday chicken wing dinner Dry rub with the 3 besties. Convection roast 400F for ~20 minutes, wings out, turn for even cooking back into 440F oven. After 10 minutes turn wings again, back in for another 10-15 minutes until golden. Sauce: Teriyaki 1/4 cup + Chiltepin sauce 1 tbsp, mix Devour.
Already seeing my patients benefiting from the Medicare bridge program for GLP1 access. First followup patient today. Reduced inhaler use, less joint pain, steady weight loss and minimal side effects. All hail Zepbound!
My cousin who is a patient in the Triumph 6 trial for retatrutide. 60 weeks in, down 125lbs, about 39% of his body weight. From 321lbs --> 196lbs 12mg dose, minimal side effects. Still has a other 1+ year in the trial to go and still losing weight. Current BMI now 25.2, starting was 41.2 🔥
I dunno but it should probably be a bigger deal that the White House announced it wants to slap a 100% tariff on drug imports at the same time it is eliminating Medicare drug subsidies. And we’re talking about critical life-saving drugs like insulin, blood thinners, antibiotics, and heart meds.
More retatrutide results! Triumph 2 & 3. One for diabetes and one for patients with existing cardiovascular disease. The weight loss again was incredible, over 20% for diabetics! A first! But the cardiovascular data was underpowered 👎 And Lilly anticipates sending in for FDA approval in Q1 2027!

Saw 17 patients in clinic today, wrote up 2,000 words on the recent retatrutide Triumph 2 and 3 trial topline readout, to be published tomorrow on the Incretin Space and cleared out my Epic inbox after being off work for 6 days. Time for a cold beverage, Japanese curry and a comfy chair.
Driving to the clinic and a literal skunk was walking down the side of the road just now. Good omen? Bad omen? Just weird on a Monday? All of the above?
LAX going from domestic to international terminal or vice versa is an Odyssey every single time.
Like this if you’ve had your own personal Oddyssey (went to LaGuardia instead of JFK)
There's a naan-zero chance a purpose baked naan bread thrown like a frisbee is gonna go way further. Plus a baguette isn't dense enough to go far despite its torpedo shape.
my intuition is that an arbitrarily chosen baguette has the advantage but that naan benefits more from engineering and a purpose-built throwing naan is probably ahead of a purpose-built throwing baguette

Of course I'm on vacation when Lilly announces new retatrutide results so I can't update my blog because I'm not typing out a detailed article on my phone 🤣
Have lived in homes with all 3 kinds of stovetops. I currently have induction and it's honestly amazing. I couldn't go back to either electric and certainly not gas now that I've got small children. Induction all the way.
Man am I glad we’re getting an induction stove. www.jaci-inpractice.org/article/S221...

In what might be a really really bad idea, Novo Nordisk is suing Eli Lilly claiming misleading advertising over how much weight loss Tirzepatide causes versus Semaglutide. Lilly used the data from Surmount 5 which was a head to head trial of the two drugs in recent advertising.
Novo Nordisk Says It’s Suing Eli Lilly Over Weight-Loss Ads
Novo Nordisk A/S sued Eli Lilly & Co., accusing its rival of misleading advertising as competition in the US market for obesity drugs ratchets up further.
