Currently Reading (9/8/2026 Edition) I just finished Blacktail which was absolutely fantastic. Not sure my next fiction read for Spooky Season but my current nonfiction read is Kai Bird & Susan Goldmark's American Scoundrel. Let's be honest: Roy Cohn is definitely apropos for Spooky Season.

As someone who has been tweeted about personally by Rowling. And who spends my whole life trying to fight the damage caused by the litigation she funds. I think, personally, I would be less harmed by you giving me an actual kick in the ribs than watching the new Harry Potter & trying to justify it.
As a new Harry Potter trailer makes the rounds, it bears repeating that there’s no way to watch this show without supporting J.K. Rowling’s bigotry and the structural violence she’s inflicting on the trans community.
“There’s a new Mr. Beast book.” You bolt awake in your workshop in Mainz. It’s 1450. You’re Johannes Gutenberg, and you’ve changed your mind. The future cannot come to pass. Your printing press must burn.
Currently Reading (8/31/2026 Edition) It's the week that September starts which means (in my opinion) that it's officially... SPOOKY SEASON Time to start rereading @stephengrahamjones.com Indian Lake Trilogy.
For nonfiction, I recently finished @devintoshea.bsky.social's excellent The Veiled Prophet and have now decided to reread @jesspish.bsky.social's The Highest Law in the Land.
Currently Reading (8/27/2026 Edition) Earlier this week I finished @chuckwendig.bsky.social's The Calamities for the second time this year and it's a strong contender for my favorite fiction book this year. Immediately reread Wanderers.

Easily one of my most eagerly anticipated books and I'm happy to say (because I got an eARC) that it is absolutely fantastic. I'm looking forward to recommending this book to anyone looking for really weird horror books.
Ahh! It's out, it's out! Beware! Run for the hills! Protect yourselves! THE CALAMITIES has escaped its prison deep in the void and is now appearing on bookshelves in libraries and bookstores everywhere! Shit! Shit!!
We're back! After a bit of a hiatus, Kaiju & Gnome is back. This week Ed's looking at the novelization of Independence Day which is a continuation of his longstanding investigation into both movies that go "boom" and the ever-mysterious Stephen Molstadt. kaijuandgnome.substack.com/p/90-minutes...

Honestly, the hypothetical book I want most is just a collection of all @stephengrahamjones.com's author's notes at the end of his books.
And if you don't know what Kaiju & Gnome is: It's me and my longtime friend/writing partner Ed doing various writings about science fiction, fantasy, horror lit and comic books. I'll probably start posting some of our favorite past articles again soon.
Kaiju & Gnome will be back sometime soon. Hopefully this month. We're trying a different writing schedule out that will hopefully ensure more quality while also not resulting in feeling overwhelmed with our publishing schedule. You can find Kaiju & Gnome's various links here: linktr.ee/kaiju_gnome
I've really missed writing and while I have other writing project irons in the fire, those are all far more research heavy than K&G. And I really enjoy working with Ed (@bookkaiju.bsky.social) so I'm excited to get rolling again.

Currently Reading - May 26 2026 Edition Started my Great Greatcoats Sequels Reread so that I can be refreshed for Our Lady of Blades by @decastell.bsky.social. Powered through Crucible of Chaos the past couple days and starting Play of Shadows today. I also realized I hadn't read Malevolent 7/8 yet
Currently Reading - May 20 2026 Edition Got an eARC from Netgalley of easily my most anticipated book this year: @chuckwendig.bsky.social's The Calamities so all the other books got set down and I've been blazing through that. Then it's on to @decastell.bsky.social's new Greatcoats book.
Currently Reading - May 18 2026 Edition Just got back from anniversary trip to Toronto. It was very nice. Read the new Ann Leckie, Radiant Star, which was very good. Now I'm starting @aptshadow.bsky.social's Shards of Earth which I read back when it first came out but need to reread for book club.
Currently Reading: It was Independent Bookstore Day (or something like that) this weekend so I stopped my local neighborhood bookstore and got Daniel Kraus's Whalefall. That book is wild. I'm also currently reading El Generalisimo by Giles Tremlett. A bio of Franco. It's very interesting.
On the nonfiction side of things I read Josh Owens' The Madness of Believing. It was good and interesting. I'd say if you're a regular listener to Knowledge Fight that it'll be mostly review but it was still good. Maybe just too much information about Alex Jones' restroom habits for me.
Recently Read: Really enjoyed an eARC of the upcoming Ana & Din book by @robertjbennett.bsky.social. There's a reason that series continues to be my favorite ongoing series. I also read an eARC of the upcoming Hawthorne and Horowitz mystery by Anthony Horowitz. Also very good.

Don’t let the President distract you from his mission of funneling wealth from the bottom to the top.
Just finished a egalley of this and it was fantastic. Also, the author nixed my normal author q&a question of "What was the best ghost story you came across during your research?" by just including that information in the book. So everyone should read this.
Hey folks, my first book is out in April! It's a narrative non-fiction account of five years of life in Berkeley Springs, WV after the "great replacement" fixated group VDARE bought a 19th century castle there. Get 20% off now with the code STRANGE20: www.hachettebookgroup.com/titles/micha...
Great podcast episode about a great book. I highly recommend Danny Funt's Everybody Loses.

My biggest Winter Olympics thought: Does anyone else see Ilia Malinin and immediately think of the villain of Superman IV: Quest for Peace?
Journalist Georgia Fort, about to be arrested by ICE for doing journalism, peers out her front door on the left as, on the right a masked, bespectacled ICE agent peers in her window. Is this a scene from Scream? From Brazil? It is, as a former student of mine would say, *dark shit.*
“It’s difficult to know when we actually make big decisions because most life choices belong to the homunculus buried deep inside our mind. The little child perpetually sobbing or giggling or starving, who drives our heart from a secret place we rarely notice, even after years of self-reflection.”
Currently reading @rebelsam94.bsky.social's Galloway's Gospel. Renfield County is one of those places that is horrifying and charming in equal measure and I'm really glad to be back for another visit.
It's that time when I'm asked what my favorite read of the year was for the library newsletter. I picked @robertjbennett.bsky.social's A Drop of Corruption. If I was allowed to pick more than one, @joe-hill.bsky.social's King Sorrow & Robert McFarlane's Underlands would also be on the list.
I think my 2026 Reading Resolution is to be okay with some books taking me a looooong time to read. Like I'm reading maybe two chapters a week of Chernow's Mark Twain and I think this is something that I can be more content about.
