An interesting fact that’s come to light researching Moore’s 1808 campaign in Spain is that handwritten British sources use Coruña, but printed versions of the letters use Corunna, because the English typefaces didn’t contain the ñ character, meaning the battle is now always known as Corunna.

Papers relating to the repatriation of Spanish POWs in July 1808. Along with the muskets, swords, accoutrements & cartridges going with them to Corunna were ‘hats of cheese’ weighing 120,000lb. I assume a hat was like a wheel but taller than wide. Anyone come across the term before? #cheese #history

Last night, we had to say goodbye to our wonderful Hope due to a sudden & severe illness. She was only 7, & we thought we’d have many happy years with her after her retirement from the Guide Dogs' breeding programme.
