NEW: Big new feature from me about offshore wind farms as anchors for wildlife! For example: seals swimming *into* turbine towers to, apparently, hunt fish - and scour protection at the base of turbines used by sea creatures as a dwelling place. atmos.earth/science-and-...

Offshore wind farms can pose risks to birds and marine life. But their foundations also serve as artificial reefs, offering essential habit.

It's astounding to see the same people who complain about high electricity bills now complaining about a policy that will reduce electricity bills. Is it the solution in isolation? Of course not. Does it take us a small distance in the right direction? Yes.

What feature is missing from my live energy map? If you could snap your fingers and add a new feature to my energy map, what would it be? It doesn't need to be map-related either, I'm warming to the idea of a general "come here to see the state of the GB electricity system past and present."

It's here! All power assets are now live on my GB Renewables Map ⚡ That's right, it's not just wind farms any more. Now you can see live and historic data for gas power plants, nuclear, grid batteries, biomass, pumped hydro and even a bit of solar.

Watching back @neso-energy.bsky.social's discussion of managing the electricity network last week and I am unimpressed. Everything was "green" right up until it wasn't, necessitating emergency actions to reduce exports to the Netherlands and to import more from France on Tuesday evening. 1/

I also recently write a post on the Octopus blog that lifts the curtain on the type of projects the team works on and how we deliver them. If you're someone who loves to learn and thrives when challenged then this is the perfect role for you. octopus.energy/blog/making-...

A tech project to silence heat pump haters? I love this shit

How do you silence heat pump haters? With hard data. See how the Octopus Energy team built a live, real-time heat pump dashboard in under two weeks

AI slop has finally made it's way to energy… To be fair we reached that point a while ago but wow has it got bad lately. A particular favourite has to be this bizarrely-proportioned map of Britain that claims to show the TNUoS demand zones that "exactly align with the country's 14 DNO regions"
