Saw an amazing grant that fits one of my projects - started reading the fine print. *must be <10 years out from receiving one's doctorate* le sigh. someone is going to thrive with that $$

Things I never thought I'd say but now I live in AZ: I'm about to buy a countertop ice maker - the freezer aint enough
I have to allow myself to sit with the fact that the administration's destruction of scientific research in the US is absolutely devastating. I am actively grieving all that we're losing ~
Why did I dream that me & 2 friends pulled off a bank heist, got a ton of money, & divvied it up between us. We got away with it - we thrived & then 1 yr. later, we tried again w/ far less planning & got caught. I turned myself in & lawyered up. I realized that I ruined my career & I was devastated
There is still time to submit your comment and tell the government that you don't want US research to be completely destroyed by politicians meddling in individual grants. You can submit your comments here: www.regulations.gov/commenton/OM...
Comments due by Monday on the attempt to politicize science/aka kill American research as we know it. Do it at the link (counter the ton of Heritage-foudnatoin-prompted comments): www.regulations.gov/document/OMB...
I'm deep in my Radiohead bag right now - and I'm worried about what that says about the state of the world (and relatedly - my mental health). Last time I remember this happening - I was analyzing data and writing my dissertation in grad school 😳 iykyk
Not going to lie - definitely depressing to hear my husband explaining grad admissions in Tr*mp's America to a very talented international prospective student. It's grim.
We're hiring an associate/full professor in paleoanthropology in the School of Human Evolution and Social Change at Arizona State University - As Katie Hinde says - come join our science party in the desert!!

Sometimes I'm just working away and then I remember that they're making (made?) a film about my dad's life. Completely unreal - like a real film w/ famous actors and a famous director. What is life??
Saw a coyote on my run today - first sighting in a long time.
Had to walk across campus picking things up and dropping things off today and baaaayyyybeeee #asu

Imagine being a kid and learning both your parents were arrested by ICE. You’ll have to pay rent and survive on your own. I shadowed four siblings—US citizens near Mar-a-Lago—as they try to do that. I'll be thinking about their story for a long time 1/x www.motherjones.com/politics/202...

Yesterday, my teen son told me that he hasn't heard me be excited about my work in forever - he said all I do is worry and vent about it now. And that friends is the reality of being an anthropologist during this administration
I love a fast Interlibrary loan and ASU's ILL is just 🤌🏾💋
I'm absolutely stunned to hear of Raúl Pacheco-Vega's passing 💔He was a very generous and open scholar. May his memory be a blessing to all who knew him well and all of us who learned with and from him.
Buen camino, profe Raúl Pacheco Vega. Fuiste y serás siempre el investigador más chido.
Happened to everyone on my dad's side (including me) - sad state of affairs over here. Now I know I can have exactly 6 deliciously plump shrimp before I get itchy
Imagine eating shrimp your whole life and one day your body says nah. 😭😮💨
went to my college reunion - had a ball and realized that I am completely unprepared for New England weather now. Rain? 55 degrees? in May?

I'm still pulling spines out of my hairline. It's been days 😩
Called myself doing a little "home improvement" this weekend and bought some cacti for around our pool. I was attacked by a chenille prickly pear y'all - I've been pulling out small spines for 24 hours. I even got them stuck in my hairline. *mistakes were made*
Climate change compounding with Philly problems (old buildings, under-resourced city…ugh).
They are shifting 57 Philly schools to virtual learning tomorrow because it’s so fucking hot and we don’t have the resources to ensure there adequate AC in our school buildings
Every week or so I think about the fact that the cops/government shot a white man, Alex Pretti, in cold blood and nothing has happened to his murderers. The murderers still have their jobs and the unarmed white man is a cautionary tale for white people to not challenge the white supremacist state.

I wonder why journalists insist on using 'remote' to describe places (in Africa) when they're writing about outbreaks of disease. Remoteness is relative, yes, but also: as a descriptor, it implies something about the place w/o actually telling you anything useful re: its residents, harms, risks, etc
I just need one morning without this fascistic bullshit apnews.com/article/redi...

Re: Hantavirus - Surely at this moment we realize why it was terrible idea for the US to withdraw from the WHO? right? smh.
I keep thinking about the ease with which they cancelled elections over the last 24 hours

Didn't go running today b/c my legs needed a rest - now we see how long it takes me to feel awake & normal. The runner's conundrum: run? awake/alive/legs tired! rest? mentally tired/groggy/legs rested
