At astonishing speed, our rights are being cancelled, worldwide. In the UK, the prosecution of Rajiv Menon KC is the latest example of blatant authoritarianism. Why? Because this is what billionaires and corporations demand. This week's column. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

In April, the Starmer government passed an Act of Parliament enabling the police to shut down any protest they deem to have a “cumulative” impact on the community. The only protests that have ever succeeded are those with a cumulative impact. Effective protest is now illegal.

Takes a special kind of thinking to see the wild fires raging around Europe, thousands of deaths from this year's heatwaves (so far) and conclude "we need to expand drilling in the North Sea to give us the economic power to transition to renewables"

Electric bills are way too high — particularly PG&E — and plug-in solar is a great way to lower those bills. I’m authoring legislation to allow Californians to easily use these devices; it’s currently quite hard, if not impossible, for people to do so.

“Not getting it right” is what you say about an underbaked cheesecake, not a policy stance on an ongoing slaughter that has claimed at least 73,000 Palestinian lives. Tellingly, Burnham still will not call what happened and is happening in Gaza a genocide." www.aljazeera.com/opinions/202...

Don’t believe Andy Burnham’s PR machine

Foreclosures increased 21% in the first half of this year. Student loan defaults are at a record high. Total household debt is also at a record high of $18.8 trillion. Meanwhile, corporate profits are the highest they’ve ever been. “New Golden Age” for whom?

Congresswoman AOC has introduced a bill that would ban Supreme Court Justices from accepting lavish gifts from the ultra wealthy. Love that, but what I find insane is that this isn’t already illegal.

Remember: There is nothing natural or inevitable about extreme inequality; it’s the result of an economic system that values wealth and power over human dignity and justice. It doesn't have to be this way.

Remember: Almost all of us are the descendants of immigrants who fled persecution, or were brought to America under duress, or simply sought better lives for themselves and their descendants. Donald Trump wants to stoke so much fear and hatred that people forget this. Do not.

"Any good decision-making relies on advice. Heads of government will have doctors brief them on public health, economists to guide financial decisions, military chiefs to warn of security threats. The climate and planetary challenges we face today are no less relevant than these issues..."
