Sensing your body (‘Interoception’) is everywhere in theories of mental health. But when we tested how well hundreds of people sensed their heart and lungs, the link to symptoms was almost nowhere to be found. 💣 🚨New @natmentalhealth.nature.com paper 🚨🎉 asks why 🧵 www.nature.com/articles/s44...

New preprint w/ Leo Tiokhin & @lakens.bsky.social! Registered Reports (RRs) are great for science b/c publication is guaranteed before results are known, reducing publication bias & QRPs. This feature supposedly also makes them great for *scientists*. But is that really true? 1/ tinyurl.com/4sy993rr
Career incentives make Registered Reports unattractive under realistic academic conditions
Registered Reports are a publication format designed to reduce publication bias by guaranteeing publication before results are known. This guarantee is considered attractive in the prevailing ‘publish...

Neuroscientist Dr. Brenda Milner is recognized as one of the fundamental founders of modern cognitive neuropsychology. She proved the hippocampus is essential for forming long-term "declarative" memory (facts, names & events). She was born #OTD in 1918--she's 108 years old today! #WomenInSTEM

Today we launch the first stable release of RegCheck: v1.0.0. RegCheck makes it easier and quicker to compare study registrations to published papers for consistency - something we know is important in principle, but rarely done in practice. A 🧵 on what's new: regcheck.app

This is the most exciting projects I've worked on - Bringing together new methods and large datasets to answer an increasingly important question. Our findings (led by @njudd.com) suggest wildfire pollution has a measurable, negative impact on neurocognitive development in children
New Preprint 📖 with @rogierk.bsky.social on 🔥 Does wildfire pollution affect cognitive and brain development? We merged data sources to answer this question in ~9000 children! www.medrxiv.org/content/10.6... #PsychSciSky #CogPsyc #CogDev #devpsy #CogSci

I have to say, it's making me feel a little insane hearing commentators say Ed Miliband shouldn't be chancellor because of his "ideological zeal" for Net Zero, in a week where temperatures are so extreme that my kids are being sent home early every day and it's regularly 30 degrees inside my house
In the Netherlands, edtech platforms (Prowise, Gynzy) track performance and implement adaptive testing at the trial level. Regardless of their merits & drawbacks (both exist aplenty), are people aware of other countries (especially global south/LMIC's) that widely use such platforms in schools?
