Avaricious hands explored, their grace and dignity exchanged for impolite want in a shadow of the Hideaway. There was nothing intelligent behind their gazes as nearby chatter burned their ears. But where wits and patience abandoned them, unhindered lust thrived as it had since their youth.

There was life here, once, though it was extinguished in heavy curtains and darkness the day that Joshua was born. Sometimes, when he's very quiet, he can hear the servants whisper about the time before. To speak joy for the dead is to offer them a place to lay their head when the celebrations in the Founder's Hall become to zealous to listen to, and they say that it's certainly no place for a little girl. Most of Joshua's knowledge of Rosalith's smallest ghost comes from the servants speaking like this. They tell stories of her stumbling after Mama while Joshua still grew in her belly to tell him of the flowers that they saw. They whisper how she crawled into Uncle's saddlebag and was brought back hours later after insisting he not return to Isolde just yet. She chose her chocobo with utmost care. She was so very quiet, a living ghost until she heard tell that Mama was with child and suddenly came alive.

<<the day i found you, you found me, too>> day 3 of roscest week, leader, just before he leaves on his pokémon journey, clive rosfield decides to teach his younger brother how to catch one of his own. finished for #RoscestWIPFest ! ff16 || roscest || gen archiveofourown.org/works/88588356

Eevee throws himself forward to ram against the tree, making the leaves shake. In response, a strangely colored bird drops from the branches to land in the clearing near them. The warm orange of its head extends down to its wings, and there are little flecks in its tailfeathers that don't look right. It seems much older than a fletchling should be, and watches Clive with open warmth. Joshua gasps, then scrambles forward to grab Clive's PokéDex out of his bag. The device turns on quickly, though the camera takes a longer time than usual to register the shape of the bird.

"Fletchling," he reads. "The Tiny Robin pokémon. When it's excited, its temperature can double!" After a moment, Joshua glances back and forth between the picture in the PokéDex and the little bird standing before him. "Is it one of those variants?"

Clive reaches into his bag to pull out a small orb, tossing it up into the air and easily catching it. "It caught my eye, at least. I thought that, so long as I was leaving, you might like having a friend. Joshua, I'm going to teach you how to catch a pokémon!"
