I’ve had great interactions at cons. But the best interactions I’ve had were at a small coffee shop, in a living room with a board game, or in a small rental house with 13 folks sharing the bill for a weekend.
It’s not a hot take. At all. Because I have talked to many folks who have confirmed it’s just “how things used to be”, but: Going out to a diner with a small group and talking is just as valid a way to interact in person with folks in the fandom as going to a convention, if not more so.
