The Rule of Law Project

No one is above the law.

Federal agents going door to door checking on whether people intended to vote is the stuff of democratic nightmare. Normally, DOJ would have stopped this cold. In modern times, DOJ was committed to combating voter intimidation, not condoning it. But now the call is coming from inside the house.

Sending armed ICE agents door to door to question voters days before an election is intimidation. We filed an amicus brief urging the Ninth Circuit to keep DHS’s “Unlawful Voter Initiative” blocked. Law enforcement must protect the right to vote: justiceconnection.substack.com/p/federal-la...

"The rule of law is precious and impunity is corrosive. We must all do our part to counter those who would undermine the rule of law for their own private benefit." - Beth Van Schaack, Former U.S. Ambassador-at-Large for Global Criminal Justice & Advisory Council Member at the Rule of Law Project

"Allegations of brutality by armed mass government agents terrorizing communities. A staggering array of apparent corruption. And a Department of Justice that has largely turned away from its historic mission of policing both." That's why we started The Rule of Law Project.

"The core of the rule of law is that no one is above the law. Now, more than ever in American history, it is urgent that we reaffirm this and apply it to those who have violated the law." - Erwin Chemerinsky, Dean of UC Berkeley School of Law & Advisory Council Member of The Rule of Law Project.

Exactly what we need in the absence of a functioning U.S. Department of Justice. An organization of ex-prosecutors and investigators who can put cases together for future prosecutors who will restore accountability for corrupt federal officials and those who benefit from that corruption.

We are facing a crisis of impunity. That's why we built The Rule of Law Project — to investigate unlawful conduct by federal officials, and work with state and local prosecutors to hold them to account. Watch Mark Blumberg and Brad Adams launch this new initiative on MSNOW with Nicolle Wallace.

"When politics gets in the way of prosecutions, the best way to ensure future justice is to build evidentiary cases now. That has proven true in lawless situations around the world. It is needed in the United States today." -Ken Roth Former Executive Director, Human Rights Watch Project Board Member

“We are not going to shy away from anything in which we can develop evidence which proves a prosecutable case.” - Mark Blumberg, the Project’s Executive Director & Chief Legal Counsel, on the need for accountability without fear or favor.

"People need a place to turn when they feel helpless and broken, and powerful institutions turn their back on them. The DOJ was that place, but they've turned their back on that mission." -Mark Blumberg, Executive Director & Chief Legal Counsel of The Rule of Law Project

We founded this organization because of the unprecedented illegality and impunity we are witnessing on a daily basis. We simply can't stand by and watch the rule of law dissolve. WIthout criminal accountability, this cycle will simply repeat itself. The law must apply to everyone equally!

Former Federal Prosecutors and Human Rights Leaders Launch New Organization to Ensure Criminal Accountability for Public Officials in the United States ruleoflawproject.org/news/project...

We are facing a crisis of accountability. Federal officials and their private-sector enablers are violating federal, state, and international law on a daily basis, with open contempt for the rule of law, and the public’s ability to stop them is rapidly diminishing.
