I take pics of every bird I can get a camera trained in on. But it always seems like the Cardinals let me get the pics I'm willing to share online without disclaimers of "too far away, need better lens" These dudes just pose for me.

A frontal shot of a very red male Cardinal bird.

Gordon Lightfoot wrote the greatest. But my friend Brian Burns covered it many years ago on an album. It's a great cover but eclipses the original when Brian decided to name every member of the crew as "the old church bell chimed 29 times". www.youtube.com/watch?v=0LRB...

What's a great song ever written about a real-life event?

Any self respecting bird photographer should focus on taking a good picture that doesn't need heavy editing. Sure we all edit our better photos, but anyone using AI to "enhance" is no longer a photographer in my opinion. www.theguardian.com/environment/...

A Painted Bunting bird has been singing songs around my house for months. I have been trying to find him for a picture. He didn't let me get close, but GOT HIS ASS today! Hoped for better pics closer up, but as elusive as he's been I'll take what I can get.

A Painted Bunting bird from the back. Showing off his blue head, green back, and red belly and lower back. Slightly less good photo of the Painted Bunting with his back turned but looking at me and showing off his very orange eye color in addition to his bright colored blue, green, and red plumage.

Please don't traumatize yourself with the goal of "staying informed" or "bearing witness" to atrocities. You can know they are real without watching someone's life leave their body or their bloody remains. If you feel you have to see the blood and death to believe it, get a therapist.

We don't have to see every mangled corpse of a toddler in Gaza, watch a young man bleed out on the streets in Madison, or video of some woman being murdered to understand what happened. It leads to mental anguish, or even worse... to desensitizing that robs us and victims of our humanity.

Sturg gets it. Every time you watch a human being die violently (or even in a hospital bed as they quit breathing) it exacts a toll. Sometimes it's small and you don't realize it. But it's cumulative. You don't have to "bear witness" to death to know what happened.

Even though Charlie Kirk was a loathsome person, I think watching his graphic murder took something away from me that I can’t get back. I’m trying to avoid seeing this newest murder on the part of fascists. I believe everyone who says it’s horrible.

I was an extremism researcher for years, and set a rule years ago to not watch videos of people being killed. I violated that today and already regret it. You don't have to watch to know what happened. Watching is traumatic, even if you don't realize it. You don't want more mental trauma.

maybe turn off autoplay or mute some key words on this one. it is unequivocally an execution. i've spent a lot of time in Wisconsin, I love it a lot there. stay safe everybody, I'm so sorry.

Digging through photos of birds, and forgot about this one. He was too far away and beyond the limits of my lens, but a couple of pics came out ok. A Painted Bunting perched in Bullrush at the waters edge.

A Painted Bunting with his bright red chest, dark blue head, and yellow and green back perched on bullrushes at the edge of a wetland. His orange eye is visible in this image.

It's so easy to point out that he's wearing clothes from the little boys section of Kohls. Or that his pants crawl up his ass or his too-small shirt shows off his budding love handles. You don't have to insinuate that he's gay to use as an insult. That's pretty homophobic.

Seeing some “Tate dresses like a gay man” comments and wanted to say two things: 1. Nothing wrong with being a gay man/fuck homophobia. 2. Y’all need some gay friends because I have many and not one of them would dress like that even for Halloween.

For 15 years of service at the factory I got to pick a gift from a website. Mostly stuff I wouldn't use. But there was a grill/griddle/paining press. Already made perfect fried eggs and grill ribs. Tonight is the first attempt at making paninis with the girlfriend.

It was a bit of a drive to get here so it was a relief to see them fast 1/x
