Seven minds wrote a paper on seven questions on mind perception. Why seven you ask? Well this is not a complete list, they merely reflect questions that we have been thinking and working on over the last couple of years. This was so fun writing with the team. A real collaborative piece!

Seeing a mind isn’t just about looks. From humans to robots, this study explores how we recognize thinking & feeling, why context matters, and why beliefs shape judgment.🧠 #OpenAccess doi.org/10.1163/1568... @fabioladiana.bsky.social @annhogenhuis.bsky.social @ruudhortensius.bsky.social

Mind perception across agents and species. Example of an interactive setup from our lab that tests mind perception across agents and species using a mobile neuroimaging setup. A human participant engages in an interaction with another human, AI chatbot, or a Border Collie dog (Canis familiaris). Photographs by Dorka Boda. The roommate Alexa preprint is live! Fantastic work by Aline. In this beast of a paper (3 experiments, mixed methods) we explore how long-term interactions with DVAs impact trust and roles within households. One of the first results of the @erc.europa.eu F-AI-MILY project!

New preprint with @fabioladiana.bsky.social and Mariska Kret and collaborators reporting on two studies that explore the question if AI can trust us. How do patterns of dishonesty fluctuate across agents and pupil size in Japanese and European samples? Amazing work by @fabioladiana.bsky.social!

Experimentology is out today!!! A group of us wrote a free online textbook for experimental methods, available at experimentology.io - the idea was to integrate open science into all aspects of the experimental workflow from planning to design, analysis, and writing.

Experimentology cover: title and curves for distributions.

🌟First conference visit with the lab team 🌟Last week, we attended the 2024 ESCAN conference. My 🧠 is still buzzing of all the great science and scientists and seeing my dear colleagues and friends.

So normally I go to gigs at TivoliVredenburg, but yesterday I was standing on stage at the sold out Social Animal event at TivoliVredenburg organised by KLI and ASPO. I really felt like a rockstar. 🤟🤟🤟 Great evening with super cool talks and people. If you can, do visit it next year!

Me on stage with a slide with a still from the Wall-E movie showing. The picture is taking from the back of the room, so the crowd is visible from behind

Yesterday, I got the privilege to give a lecture in Eduard Fosch Villaronga Law and AI course, introducing a psychology perspective on living with AI and its impact on the law. Our growing ERC teams bonded over everything science. Really looking forward exploring synergies in the future!

A happy group of scientists bonding over lunch!

Now that Bitcoin ETFs have been approved, let's recap the colossal waste of resources in BTC mining over the past year. During 2023, Bitcoin's proof-of-useless-work mechanism consumed almost as much electricity as the entire traditional financial sector combined.

The "I only worked 35hrs a week as grad student & am successful, so you should do it too" rationale mistakes work hours for the *one* main factor of academic success: Ability, luck, mentors, resources, family support & many other factors play crucial roles.
