Chilling online. I write a newsletter called Garbage Day.
"An entire generation of young creatives were paid to dump terabytes of posts and videos in a black hole, trying to entertain users long enough to be surveilled and train AI. And not only do they have nothing to show for it professionally, they have nothing to show for it creatively, as well."
I wrote about the lost decade of millennial creativity www.garbageday.email/p/you-get-wh...

You couldn't pay me to give a shit about Malcolm Todd
There was so much neurotic moral policing when I was a kid in the 90s and 2000s about what people were doing outside of their homes — how they dressed, how they talked, where they went — but after 2020, we've become obsessed with what we think people are doing or not doing at home.
On how the fear that no one is reading anymore is sorta the same fear that no one is having sex anymore which is really just a fear that, for those of us old enough to remember the before time, the world feels different now in ways we can't really explain www.garbageday.email/p/every-new-...

You can’t beat the GOP by adopting their tactics because the fight is asymmetrical. You have to come up with something new!
Couldn't fit this into the piece, but the belief that the left needs its own oaf means that Trump is still dictating the rules of engagement. Believing 1) white working class men are the voters that matter and 2) that they will only vote for themselves is just MAGA with a different coat of paint.

A lot of leftist men were — and seemingly still are — willing to accept Graham Platner's many many faults because they have a sneering, condescending belief that working people in this country are white townie oafs who will only listen to other white townie oafs. www.garbageday.email/p/the-curdli...

OK so I finally saw both: -Backrooms was technically impressive, prettier, and better paced. Would watch again. -Obsession had a tighter script, better characters, and was scarier. But it suffers from orange sludge lighting and is a meaner, nastier film I don't want to ever watch again.
We spent a month hiding out in a Kalshi clipping Discord. We learned a lot of crazy stuff about how this works, but the craziest is probably the tool they have for manually simulating Kalshi markets — which do not actually reflect the market they're advertising! www.garbageday.email/p/we-spent-a...
They claim that the anti-trans movement started in 2014 which is just wrong. I've spent the last few years binging a lot of old TV shows and what's very strange about the shows that ran across the 2000s is that many of them start making trans jokes completely out of nowhere between 2005-2007.
"They just shouldn't have participated in society" Fucking panel of cis gays discussing what trans people did to deserve genocide. Cool.
The World Cup and, more broadly, just going outside and having fun, is an existential threat to MAGA. www.garbageday.email/p/going-outs...
This week we had @bencollins.bsky.social on our podcast Panic World to talk through his plans for @theonion.com's relaunch of Info Wars. You can listen anywhere you get your podcasts and, also, on YouTube, you want to see our faces say words. www.youtube.com/watch?v=VB80...
I wrote about FreddyLA7, the apex predator of World Cup tourists. Is he some kind of fake? Complicated question! More behind the paywall in today's @garbageday.email - link here: www.garbageday.email/p/the-intern...
My guiding principle is that platforms actually don't — or even can't — suppress anything beyond nudity, gore, swears, some hate speech, etc. But I do think they can promote different content and incentivize users to make more of it. Which is what I think is happening on YouTube right now.
Interesting piece from Ryan Broderick at @garbageday.email Speculation on the degree to which a change of focus at YouTube might have suppressed the wave of invidious panics that have swung elections. www.garbageday.email/p/youtube-do...
The NY Times goyslop piece is dangerously misinformed. "Goyslop" hasn't lost its racist meaning — garbage fed to non-Jews by a shadowy cabal of Jewish elites — it's just that it has spread so far and wide now that kids use it without questioning it. That's bad! www.nytimes.com/2026/06/18/m...
If January 6th was violent projectile vomit then the UFC's Freedom 250 event on the south White House lawn this weekend was the miserable subsequent spew of diarrhea from our sick electoral body. Here's what my weekend in DC was like. www.garbageday.email/p/my-horribl...
Hi there, here's everything I saw on day one of the UFC's Freedom 250 event on the White House lawn. It sucked shit and was boring. Going back tonight for the main event.
Honored to come on and loudly yell about why I think 1997 film Event Horizon is actually a better adaptation of the Backrooms than Backrooms was

Meta and X are both leaning further into a paying-to-get-paid-to-post model. It's something even dumber than digital sharecropping. It's full-on digital feudalism. www.garbageday.email/p/making-you...
Paying a subscription to use Meta products is patently absurd for the average user. Which Meta obviously knows. From a content perspective, they offer nothing that's worth paying for. These are predatory subscriptions plans clearly aimed at businesses that are dependent on these platforms.
Meta is rolling out paid subscription plans for Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp worldwide, while also testing new AI, creator, and business-focused offerings under its broader “Meta One” subscription brand.
