This image has been widely shared on social media as a document of the human tragedy that has unfolded in Ceuta and an indictment of the EU's murderous border regime in the Mediterranean. The problem is: It's AI-generated. It has a SynthID watermark, as can be checked with OpenAI's Verify tool 1/

A photographic looking image of shoes floating in the water. It's crossed out with two red lines

What would we no longer have if fireworks were banned? Terrified pets, yet more pointless plastic released into the environment, antisocial moronic noise. Call me crazy but I reckon we can just about cope with that kind of loss, as a species.

I feel I should also defend computer science, which has produced some amazing work that had undoubtedly helped humanity make so many improvements. The very thing I'm typing this on is incredibly powerful and useful. My problem is the involvement of unregulated capitalist greed.

I'm 62. Capitalism and computer science, with one or two exceptions, have combined to make everything worse and people poorer. The damage the likes of Uber, Airbnb and dynamic pricing have done is incalculable. GenAI is making it even worse.

Little Wren. This little beauty was really popular when we launched it, a few months ago, and sold out quickly. We’ve done another run of them and they’re now in our shop. A lovely little print at a lovely little price, only £15. #wren #bird #birdsky www.cutfromtheland.co.uk/product/litt...

For the sake of all the gods, just raise taxes, add a wealth tax for good measure (including corporations)*, and ring-fence it for social care and the NHS. Then turn your attention to tax in general and let's have a fairer spread which also closes the loopholes. *probably should be a one-off

"I have no interest in reducing my impact" is the root and branch of why were seeing huge swathes of the world burning, taking all the birds, insects, mammals, fish and fungi with it. Plus pets. It's that ok just so you can carry on doing as you please? Is it so hard to give up meat occasionally?

I have no interest in reducing my impact. I eat whatever I feel like eating and am more than happy for others to make that decision for themselves. Militant vegetablists are the modern day Crusaders, imposing their morality on others without so much as a please or thank you. Tedious people.

In other news, I briefly flirted with vinted. There absolutely cannot be that many new items of clothing and stuff for sale without tags. Vinted must be an unwitting* front for stolen goods. *Maybe

FIFA is not about football, it's about money. The same can be said about some people involved in football including some players. The money needs taking out and giving to the exploited workers* to reduce their costs. *fans

We MUST ban disposable BBQs, make smoking in public and in cars against the law, and consider - and I know this will be unpopular - restricting camping to licenced sites only. People simply can't be trusted and the fire risk is too great to give them the benefit of the doubt.

All this fuss about a 'technical route' in schools is nonsense. Kids get to choose from a good range of subjects which include those that are creative and/or practical already. On the whole, they get an excellent education. The problem is the same as it's always been - the availability of jobs.
