Sarcastic, eternally trying to be optimistic, walk and book loving Welsh woman. News devourer, charity worker, aspiring lottery winner. No DMs.

Just another casual reminder that you’re being laughed at by corporates because a) governments facilitate them and b) we don’t push back. Cost of living crisis, for you not for them.

Reform UK's deputy leader Richard Tice is being investigated by the parliamentary standards watchdog over an allegation he failed to declare a trip to Israel last September, funded by a pro-Israel lobbying group during a 22 June Commons debate about pro-Israel influence which he said was antisemitic

It seems the Achilles heel of Reform/the right- openly being mocked. Get angry at them, they feed on it, love it, it fuels them. Give facts/data-why? They've had enough of experts and liberal/elite/woke/educated elites. But, face a bin/a rainbow flag table and their ridiculousness is exposed.

Sanders: Look at what Mamdani is doing and contrast that with Trump. Trump cuts funding for child care. Mamdani thinks we should have free, universal child care. Who do you think is on the side of the American people on these issues?

Well worth the read to get factual information and remember that things were not so simple as some would have you think it was.

🧵On @thenewsagents.co.uk yesterday, school closures and the lab leak theory were offered as two examples of legitimate questions that were hard to ask. Both have in fact been asked constantly since 2020. But here's a thread on why I think they were wrong and dangerous on school closures 1/12

And covid was not harmless to children. Being at lower risk than adults does not mean harmless. There was acute illness needing hospital, late onset rare but serious inflammatory disease, Long Covid and 13,000 UK children who lost a parent. (more details in substack post at end) 8/12

After 1st wave, we didn't run summer catch up programmes or improve ventilation in schools - we didn't even try until 2021, months after the last school closures. We didn't recommend masks (let alone good masks) in classrooms until after the last school closures. 5/12

It was “baffling” that a company with such debts should be making such a large donation, added @timpicton.bsky.social of Spotlight on Corruption “This adds to the litany of recent examples where a lack of transparency has left the true sources behind political donations open to question."

New: A business that made a six-figure donation to Reform UK received interest-free loans of £67m from unnamed “related companies” in the months before, raising questions about the possible origin of the funds. observer.co.uk/news/politic...

When you hear politicians, in particular, shouting about "military age men" what that really means is "ending asylum for women and children as well" because none of them are talking about opening genuinely safer options. It's a handy phrase to increase hostility and racism, but means nothing. 3/

Interviewed this morning the First Secretary was left having to admit that Burnham's devolution plans give the English what they have never asked for- a cut of income taxes for regional mayors- but do not give the Welsh what they have asked for- such as devolution of justice and the Crown Estate.
