I'm taking the Stack Overflow developer survey (stackoverflow.blog/2026/06/23/t..., open now!) and it's so long that I'm getting discouraged even though I run surveys for a living… I'm wondering, should surveys be broken up over time? Like maybe fill out one section per week?

The 2026 Developer Survey is now open (for human developers only)! - Stack Overflow

Once again, we're asking for your help to take the temperature of software development.

The "Anthropic destroyed millions of books" narrative is so frustrating. There are tons of legitimate criticisms against AI companies, and focusing on such a non-issue doesn't really help anybody… beyond the media profiting from the click-bait.

The evolution of using AI as a web developer: 2024: I don't need to use AI, thank you very much 2025: I guess ChatGPT can be useful for small helper functions 2026: Claude, create a new Astro app for me 2027: Hey Claude, figure out the best way for me to make money. Then do that

I've noticed the 8-year-old and their friend have started using the word "AI" as you would "monster" or "hero". As in "My Fire AI is blasting your Water AI with fireballs!" or "Lord AI is challening King AI for the throne!"

Before Claude: can't deploy -> google error -> maybe try downgrading Node? -> it worked! With Claude: can't deploy -> I spent 2 quadrillion tokens static-analyzing your code and all your packages' code but couldn't find anything-> maybe try downgrading Node? -> it worked!

It’s funny to see how many previously-niche activities (BJJ, bouldering, grip strength training) are becoming popular within the 40-something male tech crowd going through their midlife crisis. I guess I’m not special after all…

How much I care about the sport of soccer: 🟦🟦 How much I care about France winning the world cup: 🟦🟦🟦🟦🟦🟦🟦🟦🟦🟦 How much I like playing with Google's little bracket visualizer thingy: 🟦🟦🟦🟦🟦🟦🟦🟦🟦🟦🟦🟦🟦🟦🟦🟦🟦🟦🟦🟦🟦🟦

I've been very impressed by the quality of the advice ChatGPT gives when it comes to dealing with tricky interpersonal situations, which either means that ChatGPT has gotten really good at that; or that I'm terrible at it in the first place…

ChatGPT generated this building render, and I’m sure actual architects can probably see 15 things that are wrong right away, but I’m not gonna lie I kinda want to live there…

Me to 8-year-old: "You need to focus on the main quest-line! Otherwise you'll never finish the game!" Also me: continuously getting side-tracked by side projects in real life instead of actually working…

Just asked ChatGPT this and it was a really interesting exercise (I got 16.5/20): > Can you give me 20 questions to test out how well-informed I am about current world events? Have a global perspective, and especially include "trick" questions about commonly believed myths or misleading theories.

An unexpected consequence of AI coding: libraries become less needed, since Claude can generate one-off vanilla JavaScript code. I'm now finding myself using web components, of all things…

When it comes to AI coding, right now I feel like those people who have a dishwasher but still insist on washing everything by hand because "it's faster that way"

8-year old was struggling with reading comprehension while reading a text about “Max and Ninon”. The issue was not his reasoning skills, it was that, not being familiar with those names, he didn’t know which characters the male and female pronouns applied to. Turns out kids are woke!

Hot take: because of AI, 90% of software products will not exist in 10 years. 1) AI tools can replicate most features at a "good enough" level. You don't need Photoshop to remove a background anymore, just ask ChatGPT. 2) AI tools are expensive, meaning consumers will cut costs elsewhere.

It's gotten to the point where even non-developers I come across have used AI coding tools more than I have. Guess I can't put it off any longer…

Someone should track the average number of tabs in web apps. My theory is that it has gone up by 50% or more over the past year, solely due to Claude Code.
